"Great Listen."
I really loved this book. It was dark and raw and full of psychological layers that got revealed as the book went on. The reader is amazing and I am going to look for other books from her. You can't tell that this is the author's first novel. The character development and dialog are first-rate. I don't give 5 stars easily. For a book to be 5-stars means that both the book and the reading had to be perfect. And in this case, I think it fits. I even went out and bought the paper version to give my daughter as she is a "reader" and not a "listener".
"Great book. Possibly the best reader ever."
There are 2 books that are on my standing wish list for audible.com. IT and The Stand. I commute for over 2 hours each day and like a substantial book. I somehow missed when IT was released on Audible, but downloaded it this month and it is amazing. Over 40 hours of material, (a little too much background in some cases), but it has been so long since I read this book that it was brand new to me and absolutely riveting the way it unfolds between what happened in the past and the present (1985). But the most amazing part is Steven Weber as the reader. I didn't know what to think going in knowing him from Wings and The Shining remake. But, I must say that he is possibly the best reader I have experience in the 250 books I have listened to. I put him even ahead of the standards - Scott Brick and Frank Muller. I would love to see the Stand come to life with him as the narrator. If you like classic Stephen King and you have the time to commit to an epic novel of this size, you will not be disappointed.
"This book is just stupid"
I hate to be that direct, but the entire premise, characters, plot, ending are all stupid. The only reason I gave it 1 star is that it was short, the narrator did a good job, and really the dialog between husband, wife, and son was good. This book never did catch fire though. I never felt any urgency or sense of pending doom. In my opinion anyway, do not waste a credit on this book.
"Jack Reacher is back!"
Thank you, Lee Child. This is the Jack Reacher book I've been waiting for. I was very disappointed in the last 2 books. I didn't even finish the last one. I thought the days of my favorite character were over. But Mr. Child delivers in this book. Great Jack Reacher book. Full of logic and thinking and intuition and oh, yeah... Reacher! So, if you're a Jack Reacher fan, download it today.
"Sarcastic, acidic, profane, loved it!"
I loved this book and have recommended it to friends. The main character's sarcastic, acidic dialogue is a hoot! As almost every other character tells him he's a as***le. I originally didn't like the narrator, but he grew on me. I didn't care for his main character reading nearly as much as the secondary characters. I thought he did great at the secondary parts.
"Crazy! Perfect"
I thought this was an amazing book. From the very first sentence to the end. Great narration. An amazing first novel. Hoping to see much more from this author. A fair amount of the "f" word and other harsh language, so if you're offended by that, be aware. I am not so thought this was worthy of 5 stars. Great pace, great narration, perfect length, and different from any other book. Download it. You won't regret it.
"Great between the numbers book"
I am a big fan of Stephanie Plum. The between the numbers books are never quite as full as the numbered books, but this is still a great listen. If you're a Plum fan, get it. You won't regret it. The narrator is the same narrator for the other books, so you get the consistency of the characters. All in all, I really like it. Monkeys! Monkeys! Everywhere Monkeys!
"Don't be afraid to purchase this book."
I am a huge Stephen King fan and had read this book many years ago. I was hesitant to get this book as so many people had written how they didn't like the reader or the music in between "scenes". I agree the music is a little loud during some scene transitions, but overall I grew to like most of the eerie transition music. Could have been mixed a little better, but did not affect my enjoyment of this story.
As for Eli Wallach reading it, I thought he did a great job on this and truly enjoyed his narration and characters.
If you are a Stephen King and Dark Tower fan, this is an essential book as it lays some groundwork for Book 7 of the DT series. Well worth the credit for me.
So, don't be afraid of the music or the narration. Download and enjoy. IMHO.
"Too much French"
I listened for 3 hours before finally stopping. I really couldn't past all of the French. I loved the reader and will look for other books read by her, but I really couldn't get into this book at all. Do all Kathy Reichs books have so much French in them?
"Not as good as others"
Like many of the others, I loved Paranoia and really liked Power Play. I thought Killer Instinct had zero excitement. It just kept going and going. I looked at my iPod many times to see how much of the book was left hoping it was almost over. I felt the book was over after 4 hours and couldn't imagine what was going to fill the remaining 8 hours. Turned out it was more of the same and what I felt was very predictable. The sales part was well researched and well presented and was accurate up to the Sales Manager level, but the real corporate world does not work as it was presented in this book above the VP level. I do love Scott Brick and thought he did an excellent job of the narration, I wouldn't recommend using a credit on this book.
