The three great-nephews of cantankerous Mr Penicuik know better than to ignore his summons, especially when it concerns the bestowal of his fortune. His freakish plan is that his fortune will be his step-daughter's dowry.

connie says: "Don't judge this book by its cover."
    "Great story for all ages"
    Overall

I love the story of Freddy or Jack and was worried that the audiobook couldn't do it justice....but it certainly did! I have a very serious literature critic in my 12 year old daughter, I encouraged her to get past the start and a heroine who begins as VERY unexciting (a common Georgette Heyerism-we learn to love our heroine for her actions, rather than initial looks and sparkling personality) and she just loved it! This got her into reading and listening to more Georgette heyer, and in a world of sex and violence, Georgette is a refreshing choice for all of us.

Wanting to repay a wartime debt to the Malays, Jean Paget returns. There she hears a story which leads her to Australia.

Barbara says: "Better still in Audio form"
    "Does the book justice"
    Overall

This is one of my top 5 novels ever, love everything about the story and the audio version doesn't let it down. The walking around Singapore in the war section is done so well it is enough story in itself..but the development of "the town like Alice" after is superb, as is the narration by Noel. All fits together for something above the ordinary.

This is the first in the popular series featuring California investigator Kinsey Millhone. She's 32, twice divorced, no kids, an ex-cop who likes her work...and who works strictly alone!

    Gene says: "Poorly Narrated"
    "An entertaining read"

Perfect to while away the cleaning and travel hours with, never lost my interest, can see how she turned it into a long running series.
