Enjoyed these because they had just enough information--not dragged out. They are your little romance stories with of the four being cute in their own way. Gets you in the mood for the holidays.
In the process of reading all the books by this author. Read "The Husband's Secret" first, then "What Alice Forgot" and then this one. Love the writer's style and humor in all her books. Enjoyed the hypnotist's career in the story, but I think I got a little frustrated waiting for things to get resolved; therefore, I am subtracting one star. It is worth the credit if you enjoy Liane Moriarty.
Not just a serial killer murder mystery, but very much about family dynamics. I feel that girls/women might identify more with this book as it involves the relationship of two sisters and the relationship with their father.
Read The Husband's Secret by this author first and enjoyed the author's style and humor so much, I am working my way backwards with her previously published novels. I enjoyed this very much as well. It makes one reflect on what they would do in a similar situation and I thought the overall story was different. Being a little picky on the narration, I am thinking that the narrator didn't change her voice enough for the different characters, but overall her voice was cute and pleasant.
This is a dysfunctional family with a capital D. Heartfelt, funny and so realistic. I enjoyed the characters, and the narration was done very well--really liked the cadence of his voice. I would not hesitate to find more books by this author.
So happy to have another book in the Andy Carpenter series and this did not disappoint. Loved having all the old characters return. LOL at times, and story was interesting. Looking forward to the next one!
Enjoyed all the characters and the story line. This is second book by this author that I have liked. Love the voice of the narrator.
Would give it 3 1/2 stars if possible. The family dynamics were interesting and enjoyed the inward conflicts each character dealt with. That having been said, the main incident of the story was a little depressing and repetitive. The book shed light on a subject that some people might shy away from. It was good to inform the reader about another culture and point out our bias toward these people, but it was a little too "in your face" at times. If you are interested in coming away with having learned something educational and moving; without having to feel like you have to be entertained in a totally shallow and make-believe way, i.e. predictable romances, murder mysteries, etc., then this might work for you. I also felt it was difficult for the narrator to change her voice enough to accomplish a distinction between some of the characters. I don't regret having used a credit.
I am familiar with Robyn Carr's Virgin River Series. You would never realize that this book was by the same author as it isn't a romance. It is a great read because the different female characters had interesting lives. I feel that the author gave a lot of insight into their development and you will find yourself thinking how you know someone like them, or feel that you can identify with some of their situations. It was a wonderful story of how these women all came to be in each other's lives. I also liked the book publishing thread that was woven into the plot.
Enjoy all of her books. The beauty of this book, however, is that I feel a more serious topic is covered and I really felt connected to the main female character. Actually, I was a little more connected than I'd like to be. I felt that this book was very close to my life, so maybe that was a factor in me rating it as I did. Even if you don't identify totally with her, the book itself is still a good read.
Being a lover of book clubs, I thought I might enjoy this book. However, it had no depth and was very predictable. I only continued listening because I was painting and it made the arduous tasks of painting and cleaning a little more tolerable. There are so many other great books that would use your time and credits more wisely. I'm not usually critical, but would rather be honest as I value other reviews when I'm trying to make my listening selection.
