Adams, his wife, children, and acquaintances wrote profusely giving a huge record to draw from. It is astounding how many sources McCullough, to create this work, pulls together.
The book also gives an insiders view at the negotiations of freedom and how close we came to losing it, even after barely winning the war. Adams, a very moral man, allows us another view of Jefferson, Franklin and others that proves to be very interesting.
The material is presented in a very interesting way, with unique details added at just the right time. He moves through the material at a very nice pace, and he knows his subject. I gained a much greater appreciation for the part Benjamin Franklin played in our history. I did not get bored listening, but then I enjoy history when told well.
Shlain shares extraordinary thoughts on the development of mankind and the cornerstone role women play, and have played, in our evolution. The evidence he presents that we are now evolving again from the affects of our technological adaptations was very captivating and thought provoking as well. It was an entertaining intellectual read done with a flare, and with accomplished quality narration.
The narrator was excellent and somehow added value to the content far beyond my expectations. This should set the standard for all narrators. This is a beautiful story of simple lives and the value of people, and how differences can disappear with simple things. We even began to listen to this as a family on trips in the car; all were glued to learn the final outcome.
I have always enjoyed Tom Peters, and especially enjoyed that he narrated his own book. It really added significant meaning to the content. His ideas are always very contemporary and applicable. The book gives examples of the application of his management proposals and their results. Tom is more of a reporter who condenses what he sees others doing that create success, and then reports it with such energy that it is captivating. I think he has done a great job of that in this book.
The book gives detailed instructions on an organization methodology. I followed his instructions to the detail and have found that I am much more relaxed and getting more done. I don't have worry about missing something now, since I am 100% better organized and have a system. I have suggested the book to others.
