It is the greatest advance in American defense technology in decades - an attack submarine capable of incredible underwater speeds. Nothing else in any other nation’s naval arsenal even comes close. There is only one problem: A key element of the prototype is missing - and the man who developed it is dead. At the same time, ships have started vanishing mid-ocean, usually never to be found again, but when they are, sometimes bodies are found aboard... burned to a crisp.

For my money the plot moves a bit too fast, it's very tightly written, they bounce around the world with little process or problems, un like real life. If you daydream even a moment the plot has moved on a huge amount. Not one of the best in my humble opinion.

From the voice of a generation: the most highly anticipated autobiography of the year, and the story of a man who wanted The Who to be called The Hair; wanted to be a sculptor, a journalist, a dancer and a graphic designer; became a musician, composer, librettist, fiction writer, literary editor, sailor; drank too much and nearly died; detached from his body in an airplane, on LSD, and nearly died; planned to write his memoir when he was 21; and published this book at 67.

Pete's narration makes the book complete, probably the best of the recent rock bios by a good measure. Pete is brutally honest, well worth a listen, my favorite book of the year.

Born in shadow and kept from heads of state, there are some missions so deadly, so sensitive, that they simply don't exist. so deadly, so sensitive, that they simply don't exist. When one such mission goes horribly wrong, a wave of dramatic terrorist attacks is set in motion. Their goal: the complete and total collapse of the United States. With the CIA's intelligence abilities hobbled, former Navy SEAL Team 6 member turned covert counterterrorism operative Scot Harvath launches an audacious plan to infiltrate the terrorists' network and prevent one of the biggest threats the U.S. has ever faced.

Out of 300+ books this is one of the very worst. The bogieman is ridiculous and the premiss childish in it's simplicity and ignorance. The action is separated by long political rants so biased ignorant I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I ended the pain ($19) after less than half way, I WANT MY $19 back.

Joe Pickett's in his last week as the temporary game warden in the town of Baggs, Wyoming, but there have been strange things going on in the mountains, and his conscience won't let him leave without checking them out: reports of camps looted, tents slashed, elk butchered. And then there's the runner who simply vanished one day. Joe doesn't mind admitting that the farther he rides, the more he wishes he could just turn around and go home.

C.J. Box is making a huge dent in my audible budget these days. I have found working through his Joe Pickett series immensely enjoyable and this has been one of my favorites. What I particularly enjoy is how the author handles the endings, rarely going to the obvious and (frustratingly) never quiet allows Joe to get the credit or respect he deserves. The balance between the hard wilderness men and the do good greenies is perfect, showing the deep flaws in both extreme positions. David Chandler is stellar, the package totally addictive.

  • Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power

Rachel Maddow's Drift argues that we've drifted away from America's original ideals and become a nation weirdly at peace with perpetual war, with all the financial and human costs that entails. Sensible yet provocative, dead serious yet seriously funny, Drift will reinvigorate a "loud and jangly" political debate about how, when, and where to apply America's strength and power - and who gets to make those decisions.

In his new life as a bartender at the Little Shamrock, Dismas Hardy is just hoping for a little peace. He's left both the police force and his law career behind. Unfortunately it's not as easy to leave behind the memory of a shattering personal loss - but for the time being, he can always take the edge off with a stiff drink and a round of darts.

I don't know why I found this so hard to follow and keep hooked into but I suspect it's the lack of focus on the main character. There is a great crime writer in there somewhere but this book was very average. The story flits around from so many perspectives it's hard to build a bond with the lead character.

I may give the author a second chance.

Privately training with a seasoned Special Forces drill instructor, he’s honing his skills to transition his work within The Campus from intelligence analysis to hunting down and eliminating terrorists wherever he can—even as Jack Ryan Sr. campaigns for re-election as President of the United States. But what neither father nor son knows is that the political and the personal have just become equally dangerous.

This starts out OK but soon devolves into a thinly veiled republican neoconservative propaganda tale. Military = Good, privatized military = Better. Republican = good, Democrats and liberals = bad, ugly, fat & traitors.

I am no hippie terrorist lover, I actually used to work in WTC 2 in 2001 but this simplistic drivel is way below Tom and I hope Mark Greaney runs a mile from future projects, I really liked his past book.

    Avoid.

I rarely give up on a book but this one beat me. The style is odd, you never feel part of the story, it's like someone giving a briefing.

The Plot is ripped out of a horrible UK child abduction/killing from a few years ago, a blatant copy from the headlines. The true story was extremely sad and unpleasant and why anyone would wish to rip it off for cash is beyond me. The author can do better.

I do hope the next book follows very soon, I need a fix already./
