At once naturalistic epic, captivity narrative, road novel, and transcendental gospel, Steinbeck’s, The Grapes of Wrath is perhaps the most American of American classics. Although it follows the movement of thousands of men and women and the transformation of an entire nation during the Dust Bowl migration of the 1930s, The Grapes of Wrath is also the story of one Oklahoma farm family, the Joads, who are forced to travel west to the promised land of California.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I usually look forward to listening to a book that I have read before. The narration adds one more dimension and I am amazed at what I missed when reading the book myself. BUT not in this case. I forced myself to listen to 3 hours of the dragging narration before I finally gave up. A good narration can really make a difference, unfortunately a bad one can completely ruin a book.

To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it's where he lives with his Ma. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. But she knows it's not enough...not for her or for him. She devises a bold escape plan, but what she does not realize is just how unprepared she is for the plan to actually work.

Where does Room rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I enjoyed this book allot. It does make you stop and think. Interesting concepts and angles. I look forward to reading more of Emma Donaghue.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

    Nice fluid experience.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I definitely wanted to see them out of that room and looked forward to when I had time to listen to another chapter.

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

What did you love best about The Racketeer?

John Grisham is always good but he outdid himself with THE RACKETEER. The story twists and turns and it doesn't take long to realized that he isn't telling us the WHOLE story. I couldn't wait to finish the book (I just HAD to see if I had figured it out!) but I hated for it to end. I will read this one again.

What does J.D. Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

JD Jackson does a fantastic job with this book. I couldn't ask for more in a narrator!

Elizabeth Cameron thought it was a simple request - a small favour for an important uncle. All she had to do was fly from Beirut to New York in the company of a stranger. That was all - just a day or two of her time. It should have been easy. But it wasn’t. They should never have become lovers. She should never have discovered that Bruno Keller was a paid assassin on a job. And she should never have tried to stop him.

What did you like best about The Assassin? What did you like least?

I have always loved Evelyn Anthony's period spy novels. This novel is set in America with an American protagonist but the author is obviously English and not particularly familiar with American idioms and slang. I found myself gritting my teeth when she repeatedly referred to a Chevrolet as a "Chev" (I am sure it is a common term in the UK but not in the US!) or the elevator as a "lift". The narrator reads with an English accent. This also bothered me until I realized that it would have been impossible to pull off the English slang with a New England accent! Audio books tend to accentuate mistakes such as these that are relatively easy to over-look when you read it silently.

Would you be willing to try another book from Evelyn Anthony? Why or why not?

Oh yes, please offer us more of Evelyn Anthony. She is one of my favorites! But maybe it would be better to stick with her English novels!

What about Carolyn Pickles’s performance did you like?

I love to listen to Carolyn Pickles (unless she is trying to do an American accent!)
