Sun Records gave us rock and roll, Motown Records gave us pop soul, and Chess Records gave us the blues. Chess was the label for Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry, Etta James, and Bo Diddley - and in this critically acclaimed history we learn the full story of this legendary label. The greatest artists who sang and played the blues made their mark with Leonard and Phil Chess, whose Chicago-based record company was synonymous with the sound that swept up from the South, embraced the Windy City, and spread out like wildfire into mid-century America.

    Story
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone that is assigned to read this book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator was speed-reading this book, had no sense of storytelling, and was monotone. She didn't have an understanding for blues music, which could have turned this into a compelling tale, rather than a breakdown of events.
If you're only interested in the facts of the story of Chess Records, and can block out the traffic reporter-style narration, there is an important story here!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Spinning Blues Into Gold?

Those where she stumbled over her words and when she recited lyrics with the wrong inflection.
