A thrill ride to hell and back. Excitingly written and narrated. I almost felt like I was there. Just when you think their situation can't get any more desperate, it does.

First of all, the longish introduction to the Idylls and the career of Tennyson was very interesting and added quite a bit to my appreciation of the poem itself. The narrator really brought out the beauty and drama of the writing, which is thrilling, strange, nuanced and incredibly sad. It gets ever darker and more tragic as it progresses, while bringing out the epic spiritual and human themes more and more vividly. Also vivid, ecstatic imagery is suggested in every line. I'm downloading in enhanced format to listen again.

The narrator tells all in a bored and offhand way which not only robs the story of any possible drama but becomes positively offensive after a while. I couldn't finish this, life is too short.

A lot of interesting material. I did find the narrator's heavy breathing distracting for a while, but perhaps that was mainly because I was listening to it on a bedside boombox a foot from my ear. Since this is second-hand information based on recollections and notes, it made me want to read more from the hand of Yogananda himself for comparison...
