This biography does not contain any strong bias towards, or away from, the Kennedy mystique. Instead, Dallek writes the facts and lets the reader determine the level of appreciation, or non-appreciation, they have for JFK. The author also uses the most up-to-date information on the life of Kennedy and weaves it seamlessly into the existing facts. A wonderful book.

I draw a comparison to the book, "Eisenhower: In War and Peace" by Jean Edward Smith. Both books provide a wonderful narrative of the President from youth until death. Doing so without ever straying far from facts and balanced perspective. Both books are also highly enjoyable to listen (read) to - outstanding narration. Also, the books hold the readers interest in all facets of the Presidents' lives.

Kennedy: Perseverance and Pain. ... I cannot believe that with all his health issues that Kennedy was able to preside over the nation in an effective manner.

Robert Caro gives a brilliantly detailed description of the time between the death of JFK and the 1964 election. He speaks to all the questions that the reader would have - how did Bobby Kennedy deal with LBJ becoming President? how did Johnson deal with the fact that suspicion was directed towards himself?

I have not yet read any of the other books by Robert Caro about Lyndon Johnson's years in the Senate, but this did not detract from the power of this book. Feel free to enjoy this book before the others - it stands on its own.

In terms of Spirituality, this is the best book I've read - including audio and print books.

The character of Otto as a skeptical person really reflects so much of the cynisim we see in the world today - it reflects myself. So, I related to Otto very well.

The narrator does a brilliant job. His voice is always appropriate and lets the listener just sit back, relax and enjoy.

Many moments. I find a greater sense of appreciation weaving its way through my activities.

The author gives the reader a complete picture at the life of Dwight D. Eisenhower. Her description of the young Eisenhower reads as an easy flowing narrative giving wonderful personal insights into Ike's life.

The war years are written with attention to detail and gives great insight into the people that surrounded Ike in those years and the importance of these individuals. The author leaves you with the sense that you have actually spent time with this intriguing person.

The Presidency of Eisenhower is presented in a balanced manner. Flaws and fortitude are brought to the reader and the author allows the reader to make their own decision as to Eisenhower's contributions.

An outstanding book that I will be listening to more than once!

Paul Hecht gives an outstanding performance as the narrator.

Hell no. This is a meaty biography best served in smaller portions. Far too much to digest in one sitting. This a book you don't want to end!

This is a terrific book. The idea to see Lincoln through the eyes of his contemporaries is a great idea. It seems, to me, a fair and balanced book. The author portrays Lincoln, complete with faults, and his brilliance in a clear manner. It also brings to life those around Lincoln and in their lives and eventual grief, the book becomes a welcome addition to great books about this great leader!
