I loved this book. They don't make men like Truman anymore. It made me sad to consider that none of the post-Truman Presidents could hold a candle to him.

The book is absorbing, well written. The reading is as good as it gets. Nelson Runger sounds like Truman when he's quoting him and his reading of Churchill and MacArthur is excellent.

You won't be sorry if you give this book a whirl.

Just finished this book. It was enjoyable and well read by Scott Brick.

I tried and tried to like this book. But I couldn't. I kept hoping it would end, but it went on endlessly and aimlessly, until it got the better of me. I had to quit.

Ron McLarty is a wonderful reader, and he has a glimmer of hope as a writer. However, he needs to take plot and character lessons. The book had no plot and, on the few occasions when it tried at plot, it failed. The characters started out as likeable, but then they grey tiresome in their exceeding simplicity, almost stupid and silly ways.

I would have given this book one star, but the reading by Mr. McLarty, as usual, is excellent, even though the words went nowhere.

I think Mr. McLarty might actually make it as a writer someday, but not on this one, I'm sad to say.

I loved this book. True, it is very slow moving, character driven rather than plot driven. The characters are finely drawn and they are believable; the dialog is real. The reader is outstanding. If you're not into a subtle character-based story, this book isn't for you.

My wife and I each loved this book. It is engrossing from beginning to end. The book is satisfying on multiple levels. It documents adventurers and historians; it is gripping, at times reading like a novel. Most fundamentally, it relates interesting perceptions about the hunter and the hunted.

We don't agree that the drunken vessel captain is glorified, as one reviewer declared. He is far from glorified. His story---one of several in the book---is sad. If the reviewer had finished the book, he/she would have seen that the captain was a complex character who, like many alcoholics, waste away.

Read this one. You won't regret it.

We have now listened to two books read by Michael Pritchard, this one and Ghost Soldiers. He is excellent, perfect for this story.

Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The reader is perfect for the book. The book is nicely written. It engages from start to finish. An interesting, different type of story. Highly recommended.
