In 1919, Delano, Georgia, appoints its first chief of police. Honest and hardworking, the new chief is puzzled when young men start to disappear. But his investigation is ended by the fatal blast from a shotgun. Delano's second chief-of-police is no hero, yet he is also disturbed by what he sees in the missing-persons bulletins. In 1969, when Delano's third chief takes over, the unsolved disappearances still haunt the police files.

It's like listening to a grandfather telling a tale. You want to move slowly, or not at all and absorb the story. This was good as a historical novel, as well as a murder mystery. Very enjoyable. I highly recommend for those who want a slowly unfolding story. Very relaxing.

Former Secret Service agents turned private investigators Sean King and Michelle Maxwell have seen their lives splinter around them. Michelle lies unconscious in a hospital bed after a night of suicidal violence. And Sean is forced to take on a thankless investigation into the murder of a scientist just inside the CIA's razor-wire fence near Williamsburg, Virginia. But they will need to team up again to stop a conspiracy of traitors operating in the shadow of the White House itself.

R.E. Vazquez says: "not Baldacci's best"
    "Very fast paced"
    Overall

This book seems disjointed at first, but stick it out, it has all of the parts of a classic who-done-it.
Michelle slips into and out of suicidal depression rather magically, which is my only problem with the characterization. Otherwise, it's a great listen.

With vividly realized characters and a breathtaking pace, Last Man Standing is another spellbinding title from David Baldacci, best selling author of Wish You Well. When the FBI Hostage Rescue Team is ambushed, it is up to sole survivor Web London to find the killer.

    "wonderful"
    Overall

With attention to building detail, suspense and drama, this book was a delight. The clues were all there, but as a really good mystery, I was not able to figure out "who done it". The story is slow-paced, with good reason. It takes time to flesh out the characters and David does it well. I highly recommend this book for those who have the time and patience for a great read.

Bureau of Land Management Agent Jamaica Wild has witnessed the death of a Tanoah Pueblo man trampled to death by stampeding buffalo. The tribe has declared the incident a suicide, the FBI concurs, and the body is hurried to ceremony before the sun can go down on his spirit. But Agent Wild suspects foul play.

This book had real potential, but ended up falling short for me. I enjoyed the descriptions of the main character learning some tribal cooking, celebrations and ceremonies but the plot just didn't add up at the conclusion. The reader made me feel as though I was listening to a narration, instead of transporting me into the book.

Easy Rawlins, who "might be the best American character to appear in quite some time," is called in by the LAPD to assist in the hunt for a serial killer. In 1950s Los Angeles, Easy can go where the cops cannot, so he sets out on a dangerous odyssey that leads to a startling and heartbreaking conclusion - and in so doing, jeopardizes his marriage and his life.

The plot (and especially the narrator) combine to make a novel that is exceptional . The narrator's voice lulls your mind and ears. Meanwhile, the story unfoldes, and you cannot wait for the next chapter. A must listen!
