When Mary Boleyn comes to court as an innocent girl of 14, she catches the eye of Henry VIII. Dazzled by the king, Mary falls in love with both the golden prince and her growing role as an unofficial queen. However, she soon realizes just how much she is a pawn in her family's ambitious plots when the king's interest begins to wane and she is forced to step aside for her best friend and rival: her powerfully ambitious sister, Anne Boleyn.

    Any additional comments?

I started reading this (I am sorry to say) because of the movie I watched. However, I became hooked with Phillippa Greggory's writing. This is not meant to be a complete historical account of the time but a picture into how one person could have viewed the world around them. I loved this book!

Anne of Cleves must literally save her neck in a court ruled by a deadly game of politics and the terror of an unpredictable and vengeful king. Her Boleyn Inheritance: accusations and false witnesses. Katherine Howard catches the king's eye within moments of arriving at court, setting in motion a dreadful machine of politics, intrigue, and treason that she does not understand. Her Boleyn Inheritance: the threat of the axe. Jane Rochford's name is a byword for malice, jealousy and twisted lust throughout Europe. Her Boleyn Inheritance: a fortune and a title in exchange for her soul.

After reading the Other Boleyn Girl, I read this one. Interesting to see the flip side of Jane and really fell in love with Anne - who I believe ended up the best off. Catherine Howard as a character/individual really grated on my nerves but knowing that is probably how she was I am surprised more people didn't call out her flippant behavior.

  • Boys Adrift: Factors Driving the Epidemic of Unmotivated Boys and Underachieving Young Men

Something scary is happening to boys today. From kindergarten to college, they are less resilient and less ambitious than they were a mere 20 years ago. Fully one-third of men ages 22 to 34 are still living at home with their parents, about a 100 percent increase in the past 20 years. Boys nationwide are increasingly dropping out of school; fewer are going to college. Family physician and research psychologist Dr. Leonard Sax presents practical solutions.

What did you love best about Boys Adrift?

It provided some interesting ideas and theories as to why we have such a large number of unmotivated boys in today's society. As the mother of a 2 year boy it gave me a different perspective of ways to help continue to make learning fun for him. I did like the part about a separate school for boys only (there has always been more of this focus of a female segregated school and less on boys only education environment). Unfortunately, there are very few schools nearby who offer this
