This is a dramatization--a BBC4 Radio production and it is super! I listened to it twice in a row because it was so charming and entertaining.

It is a good classic mystery ruined by the narrator over acting. I almost gave up listening several times but the story kept me going in spite of the annoying narration.

Caterina Pellegrini is a native Venetian, and like so many of them, she’s had to leave home to pursue her career elsewhere, mostly abroad. With a doctorate in baroque opera from Vienna, she lands in Birmingham, England, as a research fellow and assistant professor. Birmingham, however, is no Venice, so when she gets word of a position back home, Caterina jumps at the opportunity. The job is an unusual one.

Tom Wolfe's best-selling modern classic tells the story of Sherman McCoy, an elite Wall Street bond trader who has it all: wealth, power, prestige, a Park Avenue apartment, a beautiful wife, and an even more beautiful mistress - until one wrong turn sends Sherman spiraling downward into a humiliating fall from grace. A car accident in the Bronx involving Sherman, his girlfriend, and two young lower-class black men sets a match to the incendiary racial and social tensions of 1980s New York City.

The 12 stories all feature an unusual detective team: Mr. Satterthwaite, a bachelor in his 60s who has spent his life as a spectator not a participant, and the mysterious Mr. Harley Quin, who appears unexpectedly and disappears as suddenly. Mr. Quin provides Mr. Satterthwaite with insight through carefully worded questions and observations that lead Mr Satterthwaite to the answers.

Quite enjoyable--the 12 separate short-story mysteries made it a good commute audio book. Hugh Fraser does an excellent job as narrator. Some of the stories were easier to figure out than others but Mr. Quin does remain a mystery.

It seemed like easy money: deliver Count Stylptich's memoirs to his London publisher and return a packet of compromising letters to the lady who penned them. But within hours of Anthony Cade's arrival in England, three strangers accost him and one ends up dead. A cryptic note leads Cade to the country estate known as Chimneys, accompanied by ravishing aristocrat Virginia Revel.

The house guests at Styles seemed perfectly pleasant to Captain Hastings, so he was shocked to learn from Hercule Poirot's declaration that one of them was a five-time murderer. True, the aging detective was crippled with arthritis, but had his deductive instincts finally deserted him? Poirot alone knows he must prevent a sixth murder before the curtain falls.

If you could sum up Curtain: Poirot's Last Case in three words, what would they be?

    Poignant, Classic, Unexpected

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hastings of course--the faithful, husband, father and friend. Trustworthy with a good character--not vain or coarse.

Have you listened to any of Hugh Fraser???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I always look first to see if Mr. Fraser is the narrator--as he never disappoints.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me cry--I think because i'm 60 and not 30. I understand nostalgia, regret and the hope that there still is a future with something to look forward to.

Confined to a hospital bed, Scotland Yard's Inspector Alan Grant is bored. To divert his attention from his pain, a friend brings him pictures of faces. He becomes engrossed with the portrait of Richard III. How is it possible that such a sensitive-appearing soul could have been portrayed as the odious villain, the Wicked Uncle of history, responsible for the murder of his young nephews, heirs to the British throne, in order to secure the line of succession for himself?

Mere Christianity is C.S. Lewis' forceful and accessible doctrine of Christian belief. It isn't easy, being a teenage pharaoh. You're not allowed to carry money, uninhibited young women peel your grapes for you, everyone thinks you're responsible for making the sun rise and the corn grow, you keep dreaming about seven thin cows and seven fat cows (one of them playing the trombone), and on top of everything else, the Great Pyramid has just exploded because of paracosmic instability.
