  • The Paid Companion

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By Amanda Quick
    • Narrated By Michael Page
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Earl of St. Merryn needs a woman. His intentions are purely practical - he simply wants someone sensible and suitably lovely to pose as his betrothed for a few weeks among polite society. He has his own agenda to pursue, and a false fiancée will keep the husband-hunters at bay while he goes about his business. The easiest solution is to hire a paid companion.

Where does The Paid Companion rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Prensently One of my favorite period romances. It did follow some of the basic premises and lines of the Amanda Quick period novels but still it was quite enjoyable, and I personally appreciate the Quick aproach. I just can't put five stars to formula writting, no matter how much I enjoyed the story. The humor in the writing made me laugh out loud. I looked up other Michael Page performances after because I thought his performance made the character and characters of the book an outstanding listen.

What did you like best about this story?

That our main characters came from a posistion of understanding their self worth, and then each others.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I particularly enjoyed the scenes that made me smile and laugh. There were many.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    laugh love live

    Any additional comments?

Thanks for having Michael Page perform this book. In particular I think he took it over the top of what I expected and made it one of my favorite Quick audible selections.

  • A Feast for Crows: A Song of Ice and Fire, Book IV

    • UNABRIDGED (31 hrs and 10 mins)
    • By George R. R. Martin
    • Narrated By John Lee

It is not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters start to gather, picking over the bones of the dead and fighting for the spoils of the soon-to-be dead. Now in the Seven Kingdoms, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces, some familiar, others only just appearing, are seen emerging from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges ahead.

"Is Audible showing a False rating with book cover?"

I was so hooked on the first three books, and this one was rated the same so I spent 2 credits and got ripped off. John Lee used this book to go on for hours stroking his voice in an up and down cadence that so completely makes my mind tune out. Ive tried to listen to it over and over hoping to get beyond or over what the narrator is doing and soon have to back it up again and try to figure out what is happening. Lee uses that strange cadence (long boring poem tone that died 2 centuuries ago) for all dialog and narration and it is ludicrous in areas when you Imagine the scene he is actually reading. Its too much translation to go from the book, through this narrator and then try to figure out the imagry and characters of the story. Instead of being transported into the story I was completely crazy for , now I feel completely crazed after just a few mins of listening. The series is Destroyed and I would rate this ZERO or Negative stars. I see lots of others would too, so why does the book as listed show so many stars? AUDIBLE are you LISTENING to the ratings? I trusted that rating , and the DOUBLE CREDITS to mean I was getting similar or same to what I had before. I feel ripped off and would like to return this disaster and use my credits for a good book.
Note that Dotrice won awards for his narrations and from what I see around the web Lee has only won scorn. Why is this book a double credit? Why did Random House let Lee record beyond the first Chapter? I get the feeling folks in charge have buried their heads on this one and are just holding out their hands for cash from those who approved the first three and thought those happened on purpose.
