This Christmas isn't so merry for Toni. Her best friend's been locked up in a mental hospital ever since she told the police she was attacked by vampires, and the only way for Toni to get her out is to prove that bloodsuckers really do exist. So she's taken a job as a bodyguard for the Undead, but she gets more than she bargained for, especially when she meets Ian MacPhie, a Scottish rascal looking for Ms. Right.

I am a fan of Kerrelyn Sparks. This was the first of her books I read and remains one of my favorites. The female lead is a strong, take charge character. The male lead an agonized, without being annoying handsome vampire. A funny, interesting plot. The narration however was most disappointing. All accents -Scottish, Russian, Brazilian- sound the same. The heroine even when in mortal danger sounds as if she is on the brink of an orgasm or ready to sing "happy birthday Mr President" a la Marilyn Monroe. The narrator also appears to have been on a tight deadline as the narration is abnormally fast.

Magiere has earned a reputation as the most formidable vampire slayer in the land. Villagers far and wide welcome her with both awe and disdain - grateful to her for ridding their towns of the undead menace, but finding themselves made poorer for their salvation. Magiere knows she's dealing with simple folk, who only wish to have their superstitions silenced, and sees nothing wrong with exploiting them for profit.

This is the most depressing, soul destroying and annoying novel I have listened to in a while. The protagonists are extremely dysfunctional and improve very little. The best character is the dog. The narration adds to the depression.

To Helen Weils, best-selling author and respected academic, history is a realm of observable facts, each one carefully weighed and inspected. So when she encounters Chip Sledd, a conspiracy theorist who insists there's an unimaginable connection between the disappearance of the colonists in 1587 and the strange noises in the sky, she's quick to dismiss his theories as the irrational ramblings of a lunatic.

In a dystopian future, fertile women are so hard to come by that they are now bought and sold for huge sums of money across the world. You could say that women are now the new currency. Curvy Kira Southerly is one of the few remaining fertile women left on the planet and she has resigned herself to the fate of being sold.

What was most disappointing about Teresa Gabelman’s story?

    Slow pace, deplorable plot.

What didn’t you like about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance?

Everything. Wrong narrator for a romance.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Damon?

Half the book. Speed up the tempo.

I enjoyed the book the narrator is as always excellent. I have one challenge: why oh Why do they insisted on massacring the English language? A body human/animal is by definition dead. Please stop using "dead body". This is one of many examples as is the pronunciation of words, This occurs in every one of the "In Dead" novels I've listened to (and I've listened to them all). It occurs so many times that it grates on the ear.The editor(s) of the books and the producer(s) of the audio books are not doing their jobs. Shape up!

A few hours ago, Sherry Carne would have sworn that vampires didn't exist. That's before rogue immortals rampage through her store, leaving bloody chaos (literally) in their wake. The kicker comes when Sherry learns that one of the vamps on the bad guys' trail may be her life mate. Her head says it's impossible. The rest of her takes one look at Basileios Argeneau and has much more interesting ideas.

What disappointed you about The Child Prince?

The "quirks" of the main character Savannah, was supposed to be amusing. She ended up being so obnoxious and mean that I would smother her in her sleep if had to work with her.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    Okay

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narration was emotionless and dull. I definitely won't purchase novels read by her in future.

    Any additional comments?

The novel had potential but lost the plot.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Readers with no imagination and bloodlust.

Has Justice Calling turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

What didn’t you like about Folly Blaine’s performance?

The narration is that of a teenager. Given the fact that it is written in the 1st person and the protagonist is nearly 50, it is just irritating. Justice Calling is in essence a Penny-Horrible with no plot and lots of blood.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Justice Calling?

The eating of a human heart by the protagonist. This appears to be a thread that will continue in the series as this is where she gets knowledge & power from.

Crossover is the first novel in a series which follows the adventures of Cassandra Kresnov, an artificial person, or android, created by the League, one side of an interstellar war against the more powerful, conservative Federation. Cassandra is an experimental design - more intelligent, more creative, and far more dangerous than any that have preceded her. But with her intellect come questions, and a moral awakening. She deserts the League and heads incognito into the space of her former enemy, the Federation, in search of a new life.

The slow pace, over dramatization of each and every experience, activity and action. It just drones on and on and on.

Would you ever listen to anything by Joel Shepherd again?

    No

Would you be willing to try another one of Dina Pearlman’s performances?

    No

What character would you cut from Crossover?

    All of them.

    Any additional comments?

Just give this a miss unless you need a cure to insomnia.

For Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the NYPSD, the job is a useful reminder of what she has to be grateful for this season. Hosting Roarke's big Irish family for the holiday may be challenging, but it’s a joyful improvement on her own dark childhood. Other couples aren’t as lucky as Eve and Roarke. The Reinholds, for example, are lying on the floor of their Downing Street apartment, stabbed and bludgeoned almost beyond recognition. Those who knew them are stunned - and even more heartbroken by the overwhelming evidence that they were murdered by their own son.

What did you like best about Thankless in Death? What did you like least?

I am a huge fan of the In death series - I have all the audio books. However this one was so disgustingly-the-top that I skipped parts of the book. The gruesome violence as the protagonist commits the crimes and compulsive profanity by all the characters was hard to stomach. This book was not an enjoyable experience.
