Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

    Joshua says: "Wonderful production!"
    "Boring & poor reading!"
    Overall

This novel is about nothing...the typical messiah stuff wrapped around nonsensical futuristic gobbly-gook! The reading is surprisingly poor...good readers that seem to forget thei characters from chapter to chapter and sometimes page to page. Avoid this noel! Ender's Game is 100x more interesting!

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

Nicole says: "You love it or you hate it..."
    "Sensory Depravation"

I almost always finish a book. However, after 15 hours of non-stop nothingness I had to put down The Passage. Next time I pick it up will be moments before take off on a red-eye flight across several time zones. I am assured of almost immediate sleep without the hang over left by meds.

Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol. Within minutes of his arrival, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object is discovered in the Capitol Building. The object is an ancient invitation, meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of hidden esoteric wisdom. And when Langdon's mentor is kidnapped, Langdon's only hope of saving him is to accept this invitation and follow wherever it leads him.

    Frank says: "Not his best"
    "Is Dan Brown home?"
    Overall

Short and sweet: this novel is absolutely awful. If you liked Brown's previous novels, do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy this novel.

From the depths of the Indian Ocean, a horrific plague has arisen to devastate humankind - a disease that's unknown, unstoppable, and deadly. But it is merely a harbinger of the doom that is to follow. Aboard a cruise liner transformed into a makeshift hospital, Dr. Lisa Cummings and Monk Kokkalis, operatives of SIGMA Force, search for answers to the bizarre affliction. But there are others with far less altruistic intentions.

JoAnn Marcon says: "A fun book"
    "Good narration..so-so plot"
    Overall

Listening to the excellent narration was a pleasure. (However, I kept thinking I was following Alex Cross, not Agent Pierce.)

The story is interesting, but not compelling. The bad-guys are bad, but not interesting. The good-guys are predictable, but not too bright.

All in all it is a good time. I suggest you stop listening before the Epilogue.
