I picked this up on a special offer from Audible, but not being exposed to any of the previous Dexter books, this may not have been the best book to start with. I was lost and confused through the beginning as no summary or history was given to help understand the basis of the series or the characters. Dexter comes across as a blend of Forest Gump and Rainman, and I had to guess at many of the story nuances, such as what the "Dark Passenger" was through most of the book. Maybe the author should spend his time sprucing up the story instead of narrating it.
