This was an excellent story. It definitely wasn't a shoot em up or action book. However, if you're looking for an interesting story about a fractured family, this is your book. It's beautifully written, and skillfully read. I loved it. I've read some of the reviews who felt the book needed editing. I totally disagree. It was a lazy tale with beautiful descriptions, and I felt like I knew and sympathized with each character.
When one of the major character's died.
The reader did an absolutely amazing job.
I have no idea as it wasn't even interesting.
Read the book just way too slow. I mean waaaayyyyy too slow.
Make me care about the characters. Frankly, I never ever cared about any of them.
I found the thought processes of the boy amazing. I found myself aching for the parents who find themselves in a similar situation.
I can't think of any other.
The young boy.
I listen in the car, so can't really answer this one.
I wasn't sure that I wanted to read/listen to this book. But I have a friend who has an autistic child. So I was curious. I must admit that I was amazed at the humor and heartbreak that was revealed in this book. I highly recommend it.
Okay, I've absolutely had it with these readers who have such thick accents that you can not understand them AT ALL in the car. Folks, audible is largely for those of us who spend a lot of time in the car, and this is the 3rd book that I've attempted to listen to this year where the choice of a reader was someone that I could not understand.
there are plenty of actors out there where English is their first language who can speak in an accent to add some flavor to the book. But we must be able to understand the reader.
Absolutely. I should have heeded the advise of other reviewers.
Choose a reader where English is their first language but who have the ability to add an accent.
I was unable to finish this book. A complete waste of my credit.
I downloaded this book as it was the monthly book of the month selection for the Arizona Republic, our local newspaper. Let's start with the reader. She whispers. She clearly forgot that most people listen in their cars, and cars have noise, air conditioning etc. Then her accent is so heavy that half the time, I could not even understand what she was saying. The next thing is that the F-bomb is used in almost every single sentence. I'm not a prude, but that is just not necessary.
Now, let's talk about the lack of a plot. I'm just starting book #2. Candidly, I'm waiting for my points to post and I'll just quit this horrible book. The main character is just boring. The plot is non-existent, and the Reader makes it even worse.
Cut the accent down and speak louder. I think the accent is great, but her's is so thick that it's just not understandable.
Accent too think, and she needs to speak up!
All of them. I did not ever relate or care about one character.
Save your points, and buy something else.
This was an amazing spy story. Even at the last 10 minutes of the book, I did not know how it would end.
My only regret was that I don't have copies of the recipes. Each chapter ends with a recipe and some of them sounded amazing.
Dominica. Very complicated character!
Nate! Would love to know him also.
The end. Can't discuss or it would give it away.
I wish audible would put a pdf. on the site that included the recipes.
There are numerous reviews about the story content, but this book is only being read because Dan Brown wrote it. Maybe! The book is so very patterened for nothing more than movie rights. Lots of action scenes, and unfortunately, I kept seeing Tom Hanks face. There is noting memorable about this book, and it's just plain boring.
Note yet sure.
None, the book was just too rediculous to mention. I'm sure I'll go to the movie as that is really what the book was written for. Action scenes, running scenes, falling scenes, etc. Not much in the way of content.
Huge disappointment. It's a formula book.
Save your money.
Honestly, I tried. I even went away, read another one, and came back. Finally just deleted it. the book is beyond boring, and the reader is even worse.
Mainly, she was monotone. No variance to her voice. I'd drive along, and realize that I flat couldn't remember what she just read.
Editing, and definitely a new reader.
I do not recommend.
I read this book after it was recommended to me after I read The Storyteller. This book is also told in past and present time. It's beautifully and sadly written. I also purchased the book for my mother stayed up all night reading it. I highly recommend it.
Both of the readers were absolutely excellent.
I laughed, but mostly cried.
This book ranks at the top of the books I've listened to. I did not originally know about the subject matter, but I got it beause of a review I saw in the Wall Street Journal. I sort of expected a Sex and the City kind of book about 3 friends. I couldn't have been more wrong. I also wasn't thrilled abou the tone of the voie of the reader at FIRST. However, as the book prgressed and the characters became more clear to me, it occured that she was perfect. She perfectly captured the personalities of the 3 different women.
I really don't want to spoil the story because I'm afraid that if I reveal the topic some individuals might not decide to purchase this book. Please don't. It's an excellent book that should be read by anyone who has ever loved, known or cared for someone with Cancer.
I had very limited knowledge of Anne Lindberg. This is an excellent story. I oFten sat in my car waiting for a chapter to complete.
How it was told in past and present.
She was an amazing reader. I saw one reviewer who didn't like her voice. This has caused me to be cautious about some books as the reader makes or breaks a story. The magic of this reader is to remember that the story is basically being told past tense by an old woman. Once I realized this, I loved the reader.
The rest of the story!
This is a fantastic book. I bought 2 copies from Amazon and sent them to my mother and sister.
