From farmer Joel Salatin's point of view, life in the 21st century just ain't normal. In Folks, This Ain't Normal, he discusses how far removed we are from the simple, sustainable joy that comes from living close to the land and the people we love.

Would you listen to Folks, This Ain't Normal again? Why?

I would and did. Because it is so important to understand this situation that is facing us and what we can do about it. Because of this book, we are starting a garden, recycling, going to start raising chickens and goats. You don't have to make these choices but it will certainly make you think and at least make you want to go to the farmer's market rather than the supermarket.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

What it takes to grow and raise our food and finding out that it doesn't have to be as disturbing, if done the right way, as the feedlots and monoculture systems. It also makes me to take action to stay in contact with my local representatives to change the restraints against local food. Its better to have many avenue to get food rather than just one, industrial food monopoly.

What about Joel Salatin’s performance did you like?

    His enthusiasm and passion.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Its funny in several places. I laughed, I was shocked, and I was outraged.

    Any additional comments?

Do not pass up this book. Everyone should listen to this.
