I thoroughly enjoyed this tale. It was, for me, an easier listen than Lonesome Dove. The characters came alive with the narration of Frank Muller. He was one of the best. Narration by Frank Muller is half the reason that I purchased this book. All of the Larry McMurtry westerns that I have listened to have been great. Frank's reading just made it better.
I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend. I don't know if she read the book or listened to it as I have been. I have enjoyed the story but cannot recommend it. The narration is equivalent to a high school kid in remedial English. Absolutely horrible. I am almost done and want to know the ending but it will not be easy getting there. What a pity.
I thoroughly enjoyed Last Man Standing so I ignored the rating on this book; too late now. This book should be under the fantasy category, utterly impossible fiction. Broken into two parts, the first half is interesting and enjoyable. The second half wanders into the realm of the ridiculous. Ten thousand monkeys on ten thousand typewriters etc. Not all books are award winners, not all books should be published.
