Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, but only a certain kind of friend. One who could handle all the sex talk and who is interessted in what animals and humans have in common.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The little girl with bulimia. I had never before consideded her fear and how it could relate to the fear animals have when they have to do something risky to eat.

Have you listened to any of Karen White’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    no

    Any additional comments?

It covers everything from sexy body language comparisons to weight problems. Truly comprehensive and enlightening.

It is overwhelming how much we have to learn from each other. Animal doctors and human doctors. Having worked in a few vet clinics, I knew something was up, but I would have had no idea that they did not communicate more.

There is some odd and disgusting stuff in this book too. I found myself blushing as I was walking around with my headphones on fearing the reaction of those around me if the headphones popped out and they could suddenly hear the odd stuff I was listening to. Listening to it a second time helped me, as I was so distracted the first time, I was shocked at how much I had missed.

What did you like best about Planning Your Unique Wedding? What did you like least?

IDK, possibly nothing. I have never planned a wedding or helped plan one and I can't say I got anything out of this book I hadn't already considered. She was too intense, and All of the psychology and destressing tips were annoying. I'm planning a fun event with a man I am in love with, no the guests will be fine with whatever we do, nothing to freak out about. Just wanted some fun ideas

Ted Kerasote met and adopted Merle, a Labrador mix, while he was on a camping trip. Merle had been living in the wild, and after taking the dog home with him to Wyoming, Kerasote soon realized that Merle could not adjust to inhabiting exclusively the human world. So he put a door in his house to let Merle live both outside and in. A deeply touching portrait of a remarkable animal, Merle's Door explores the issues that all animals and their human companions face.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I have, and to other dog trainers, but only if you want to cry. He is so over the top with his anthropomorphism, and yet it was ok because he was fully knowledgeable of this fact.

What other book might you compare Merle's Door to and why?

This is not just a story about a dog it is so full of actual knowledge in animal behavior. I could not compare it to another book on behavior but the author obviously did his research on up to date science.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I only wished that dogs never grow old and it was only a story. Not real life that had to end. It ended as it should have, as real life does, but I could have stopped in the middle and forever remembered that dog living his beautiful life in the country, hunting and hanging out with his friends.

From everyday stress to severe trauma, many obstacles to a full life can be overcome by developing what Dr. Daniel J. Siegel calls "mindsight," our ability to perceive the mind and literally redirect the flow of energy and information within our brains. Through this powerful capacity for insight and empathy, we can "rewire" crucial connections, create dynamic linkages, and open ourselves to relationships in a new way.

Sure, I would recommend it, but to most people I may recommend skipping the first half of the book unless they really want to be boggled with the very scientific end.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no, but I did want to get back to it every-time I left it alone for a bit

  • Animals in Translation: Using the Mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behavior

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 51 mins)

How is Animals in Translation different from every other animal book ever published? Animals in Translation is like no other animal book because of Temple Grandin. As an animal scientist and a person with autism, her professional training and personal history have created a perspective like no other thinker in the field, and this is her exciting, groundbreaking view of the intersection of autism and animal.

What made the experience of listening to Animals in Translation the most enjoyable?

Her great insight into the animal mind from a very unique perspective. It is her insight into livestock and horses that helped me most. Couldn't say I always agree with her on the dog related information.

    Any additional comments?

For a bit I was totally offended on her view of the AKC dog breeder. Not that I am one but they do not all have such a one sited view on raising dogs just for looks. There were other things that really pissed me off in the earlier chapters but later she stated that this was not always the case. Kind of wish she had done that sooner.
