I call this a summer read because the plot and characters are only mildly interesting. It reads like a script for an action movie--entertaining but not a book that you will remember vividly a month after reading it.
On the other hand, it might spark some debates over dinner about the potential flaws in our justice system. Many books look at how innocent people are wrongly convicted and this book looks at the opposite perspective with interesting consequences.
Well performed with some interesting moral dilemmas.
Plot was a little predictable but it did have a slight variation....no spoilers here....
I hope the author realizes he's getting dangerously close to a formula and gets a new approach soon. I like the way the characters are developing but they need some new challenges!
I could not get through the first chapter of what could be a good book. The narrator's delivery was so wooden and robotic!!! Avoid this one--it's too bad...maybe Audible will have it re-recorded.
I suspect that Audible and the publishers are pressuring writers to create these long short stories/novellas. However, this is a difficult genre and not everyone can do it.
The plot was very, very thin and entirely predictable. I would not recommend this one, although I have greatly enjoyed the other novels in this series.
This might be my favorite book in the series. The story plot moves just a bit faster, and the humor is outstanding! Frangione is the perfect narrator for this series--hope that he continues recording them.
I've been recommending these books to all my dog-owning friends. Quinn's style is just a bit reminiscent of Donald Westlake (a fabulous writer who will be long remembered). Even the secondary characters are interesting and just a bit complex.
If you haven't read the series, I suggest you start with the first one--the inside jokes are much funnier when you've read the earlier works. However, this particular book really does stand on its own.
Can't wait for the next book in this series!!
As Chet the Jet would say, "That Spencer Quinn...just when you think he's done amazing you...he does it again!!"
I was very skeptical about this book. The idea of the Dog being the narrator seemed soooo contrived. Even though I love the dog mysteries written by other authors--but the humans are the narrators.
Well, after about 20 minutes of listening, I was totally won over. The author is brilliant at making this very believable. I found myself totally enjoying this book, and I'm looking forward to new adventures of Chet and Bernie!
Hmmmm.....did I miss the memo? this book is a replay of the TV show White Collar with a not very interesting romantic story line added.
I found it difficult to stay interested in this story because of the poor narration. Mr. Ganim has a fairly robotic tone of voice--especially when he is doing female characters. After awhile, all the females sounded alike. They were mechanical--almost like computer voices.
Too bad--I think I'll get the print book and read that. This is awful!
I've reviewed other books in this series and this one is another funny, fast paced addition to the series. This is definitely a series to read from the beginning--the characters do develop and there are amusing plot twists that are especially amusing if you know the previous books.
Narrations by Jonathan Davis is excellent!
This was a disappointment. The story line ultimately proved to be completely boring. Kellerman seems to be writing from a formula and the characters aren't developing in any way at all. The plot line just fizzed out in the end....no real mystery, nothing to ponder. Very flat ending.
And, Kellerman tends to have the characters ponder endless possibilities and explanations for each tiny event. After awhile, I just wanted him to get on with it.
There's a curious lack of action in this book as well.
The narrator is good--that's the only thing that kept me going to the end.
At this point, I won't be reading anymore in this series. Save your credits!!!
