The beloved #1 Essence best-selling authors of Tryin' to Sleep in the Bed You Made now deliver a novel in which you'll meet their most unforgettable characters yet. Carmen, Jewel, and Regina could not be more different. When they meet as freshmen at Columbia University, they're pretty confident that a friendship among them isn't in the cards.

Bravo!!! Loved the characters and wished them a happy life. The storyline shows that life goes on with all its joys and hardships and friendship endures forever.

A debut of extraordinary distinction: through the trials of one unforgettable family, Ayana Mathis tells the story of the children of the Great Migration, a story of love and bitterness and the promise of a new America. In 1923, 15-year-old Hattie Shepherd flees Georgia and settles in Philadelphia, hoping for a chance at a better life. Instead, she marries a man who will bring her nothing but disappointment and watches helplessly as her firstborn twins succumb to an illness a few pennies could have prevented.

Would you try another book from Ayana Mathis and/or the narrators?

Yes, she is a good writer and the narrators were excellent

Would you be willing to try another book from Ayana Mathis? Why or why not?

Yes, but I hope she writes a better story. Some parts of the book were interesting; others were just boring. I did not like Hattie and found very little growth in her maturity level.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The narrator's performance kept the book moving along, even the boring parts.

Could you see The Twelve Tribes of Hattie (Oprah's Book Club 2.0) being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No, because there were no likable characters in the book.

Harlan Coben, author of the coast-to-coast best seller No Second Chance, delivers an emotionally powerful thrill-ride of a novel that asks the question: How far would you go to protect your family?

When I read a book by Harlan Coben, I know I will not be disappointed. This book met my expectations. I loved all the different plot twists, and although totally unexpected, I loved the ending. This was a hard to put down book.

Ron Chernow, whom the New York Times called "as elegant an architect of monumental histories as we've seen in decades", now brings to startling life the man who was arguably the most important figure in American history, who never attained the presidency, but who had a far more lasting impact than many who did.

I purchased this audiobook because I was going on a long plane ride and wanted an audio that would last for the duration of my trip. Well, this audio lasted a lot longer and I enjoyed every minute of this great book. Although I knew about Alexander Hamilton, I knew almost nothing of his life, his passion or his greatness. History does not give him enough credit because his ideas about banking, the economy and finances are still practiced today. His personal life and the way other politicians used it in an effort to destroy Mr. Hamilton reminds me of the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky fervor. I was dismayed to learn that politicians during that time were no more gentlemenly then they are today. Of all the founding fathers, this audio has caused me to reevaluate my opinion of Thomas Jefferson.
    Great Read.

Jackie is a poor boy from Harlem and the victim of abuse from his widowed, alcoholic father. But everything changes on the day he discovers the power of comedy. When his classmates make fun of his tattered clothes, Jackie turns everything around by freely poking fun at himself and soon has everyone on the floor with laughter. His amazing talent, and raging ambition, take him through the local club circuit to become the most sought after comedic entertainer in opulent, '50s Las Vegas and beyond.

SLP says: "Outstanding writing and performance"
    "Soul Searching"
    Overall

This book saddened me. Although I kept hoping that Jackie Mann would do the right thing, the terrible beast of racism took away Jackie's rational thought process. The roots of racism, overt racisim, and normal everyday challenges caused Jackie Mann to make some wrong choices, not because he did not know how to do the right thing but because he was afraid. When his fear lead him to compromise his values, he began to hate himself. When those close to Jackie were willing to forgive him, his self-hatred prevented him from reaching out. This book, although brilliantly written, saddened me because Blacks and other racial minorities frequently go through self-hatred which causes them to make bad choices. The storyline held my interest and the ending was realistic.

Momma's Baby Daddy's Maybe is an Essence best seller by popular author Jamise L. Dames. This steamy tale revolves around the lives of the three Jacobs siblings: wild Kennedy, corporate Simone, and handsome Derrick.

    Cheryl says: "Disappointing"
    "Not Recommended"
    Overall

After reading other reviews, I had high expectations that were not realized. The storyline was unreal, the love scenes were nothing but soft porn, and the writing was full of trite sayings and otherwise boring descriptions. The author had a good idea that could have been turned into a good story with a more gifted writer. Because I always commit myself to completing a book, I suffered through it; however, I do not recommend this audible book.
