Acclaimed novelist Darin Strauss examines the far-reaching consequences of the tragic moment that has shadowed his whole life. In his last month of high school, he was behind the wheel of his dad's Oldsmobile, driving with friends, heading off to play mini-golf. Then: a classmate swerved in front of his car. The collision resulted in her death. With piercing insight and stark prose, Darin Strauss leads us on a deeply personal, immediate, and emotional journey.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People that like to live in the past and whine. He killed someone by accident - now he rakes in the dough whinning about it. Sorry I am too busy for your sad life. I would rather have read about the real victim

  • The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work

Conventional wisdom holds that if we work hard we will be more successful, and if we are more successful, then we’ll be happy. If we can just find that great job, win that next promotion, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But recent discoveries in the field of positive psychology have shown that this formula is actually backward: Happiness fuels success, not the other way around. When we are positive, our brains become more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient, and productive at work.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

After about 1 hour into this book, I have learned Shawn went to Harvard, works at Harvard, Harvard people are smarter than everyone else, and he must be right because dummies like me who didn't go to Harvard forked over money to him. Oh yeah and he gets to go to interesting places because he went to Harvard too!

Would you ever listen to anything by Shawn Achor again?

No thanks, there is no substance here

What three words best describe Shawn Achor’s voice?

    OK

What character would you cut from The Happiness Advantage?

    Shawn

    Any additional comments?

If you went to Harvard this must be a great alum cheering exercise. I sure wish I went to Harvard so I can tell people I am among the smartest people in the world. I feel sorry for the non Ivy Leaguers like me who just go to ordinary colleges and are not as smart. That is about all I got out of this.
