Poor Alex Hawke, he does not seem able to keep his mates alive. Then he goes into a terrible self destructive dive and then miracles, he recovers to work on another problem. The theme is getting old. The whole book seemed to be very formula driven. It was a difficult to listen to since it seemed so mechanical. I normally like Ted Bell style of writing but this book could have been by any thrill writer. I am probably done with listening to this series.
Exciting, captivating, enjoyable fun even for a non science fiction reader. Can't wait to get the next book!! Writing and narration rock
Enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I thought it was a good book for teenagers and will have my 15 year nephew read this. I will probably get the other 2 books when I have some extra credits.
A little harsh I know. But had I not listen to other Kristen Ashley books and absolutely was fascinated by the Colorado Men series, I would never listened to another Ashley book. The characters are suppose to be these amazing he-men and the narrator has them talking in these wimpy voices. The female characters are even worse. I was torn from returning the book and keep listening to a great story. I finished listening and I am glad I did. The story is great though so maybe reading would be better than listening. Book is perfect for the times you just need an escape from reality. I have listened to most of the Kristen Ashley books and highly recommend them. Just stay away from this narrator, it is not a good fit.
When I first started to listen to this book, I was ready to turn it back in. There is a ton of he said she said then he said. It drove me nuts. It was hard to tell the characters apart because the narrator did not try to sound like different characters. BUT there is a method to the madness. I ended up really enjoying the book. The story line makes several unexpected and, at times, unbelievabble turns. But again there is a reason for the that. At first glance it is just boring, then goes to weird, then stranger and then I did not want it too end. Enjoy!
Bruce Courtenay is one of the great authors. His stories grip you through out the book, The book is set in South Africa during the mid 1900s. Simply, without any over dramatic hammers, racial discrimination is shown to be the nasty and ugly thing that it truly is. The author did an outstanding job describing the area without boring the listener to sleep with the details.
I am not quite sure if I would have liked the book as much as I did if there was a different narrartor. Humphrey Bower's voice weaves the story around you like a soft blanket. I cheered, cried and laughed out loud. Hurray for the Tadpole Angel! ( gotta listen to the book for that one!)
The story is great. I love the early Garwood book. I have been disappointed with some of her recent books but this one is a fun listen. The male and female roles are believable with great interaction. Better than your average romance
Walt at his wittiness. I had to get the Kindle book also because I could not let this one go. It was hugley entertaining and a great listen. Great story line with a few great twists. I wish the book had not ended so soon. I want the next book NOW!
I really enjoyed listening to this book. I bought it in one of the sales but thought since it was about gaming I would not like it. The gaming is just a catalyst to a great adventure. There is mystery, adventure, some human behavior explored and good ole fashion fun. Definitely a book that does not match the description. A small negative point is that there are times that you need to let go of reality and go with the flow but then the story settles back. I almost look forward to going to work so I could listen to the book on the way in. Well worth a credit, definitely a great buy from a sale.
I have to confess that I am an Alex Cross groupie and I love reading about his life, family and his entire life. This book was WAY too short on details and I was a little disappointed. It was interesting that there were 2 different story lines but I think both of them could have been explored in a little more detailed. This might have been an opportunity to explore the mindset and dedication of the radical muslims and help the American public get a better understanding of what drives fanatics. I think the title is decieving, I kept waiting for some aggressive move on Alex. Maybe James Patterson got sick of people trying to kill Alex. Not one of "I just can't wait to see what happens next" books but still good entertainment.
