I found the topics interesting and I'm not uncomfortable with Susi's lubricious perspective, but I discontinued my subscription after one month because her giggle drove me mad. Susi, please get help from someone with radio/broadcast expertise: you spend a disproportionate amount of time chortling at (your own) witticisms.
One of the best.
Hard to decide between the retired detective and Jerome, his teenaged yard-boy turned assistant.
Patton's performance is super. I could listen to Will Patton read the phone book and I'd find it interesting, but here he excels.
Absolutely. But I was also glad that it was a lengthy recording (14 hours?), because I had longer to enjoy it.
Stephen King has a gift for creating the perfect details of a setting, adding characters that fascinate, and then supplying plot twists that keep the reader engaged. I am not wild about the supernatural element in most of his novels (too scary!), so this detective novel was the perfect King for me-
Dump the cringe-making puppets and add the appealing characters and laugh-out-loud humor typical of Susan Elizabeth Phillips' other books.
I am a big fan of this author, and I would certainly give her a chance again, but the next time I wouldn't put in a pre-publication order - I'd wait to read the reviews, first.
All of them, but I the puppets really put my teeth on edge.
Something went wrong with "Heroes". I have truly enjoyed all Phillips' other books and have re-read several of them, each time charmed anew by the author's skill, wit and ability to make me laugh. This book, however, is a major disappointment.
Lisa Gardner's mysteries are usually among my favorites, but the Family Secrets series does not meet her usual high standards. Maggie''s Man was apparently written during the early days of Gardner's career, when she had not yet found her proper voice. This book has far too much panting, moaning and underwear-shedding for my taste.
No - too embarrassing.
Give me more plot and fewer long, drawn-out sex scenes.
This book, number 3 in the Lymond series, is a fascinating continuation of an exciting Scottish saga. I just wish that Audible would get its act together and obtain the complete series. How frustrating to have enjoyed The Game of Kings, only to find that Audible does not offer the next book in the series, Queen's Play. This is especially surprising, since an audio version is available through Dunnett's British publisher,Whole Story Audio).
Like others, I have read and re-read Dorothy Dunnett's wonderful historical series. This is a terrific way to enjoy again the twists and turns of the plot, as well as the author's creation of character and scene. My only complaint is that Audible has chosen to make only books 1 and 3 available! I see from the Dunnet website that books 1-4 are already on audio. Get cracking, Audible! This series is a winner!
Unconvincing adventures of testosterone-charged road warrior. Characters are underdeveloped, 2-dimensional. Narrator struggles unsuccessfully with rapid changes among accents (his version of German is particularly painful). Listener must endure numerous, one-sided Blackberry conversations- we suffer sufficiently from these in real life, why replicate as "entertainment"?
Susan Elizabeth Phillips' books are always a treat and "Glitter Baby" is no exception, with one minor complaint. This recording is marred, for me, by the addition of a muzak-like audio loop that intrudes up at odd moments. It's as if the studio needed to splice two bits of tape together and decided to distract the listener with 'on hold' music.
Shallow characters, stereotypic situations, facile solutions. The only redeeming feature of this book is the information on training horses. Nay! Not my fave.
Engaging, amusing characters. Plenty of surprises that keep you guessing until the end. A mystery with special pleasures for archaeology buffs and anyone who has ever visited Rome.
The text is interesting, but the narrator has a real problem pronouncing the "s" sound! I found it very distracting. Speech correction required!
