I found the topics interesting and I'm not uncomfortable with Susi's lubricious perspective, but I discontinued my subscription after one month because her giggle drove me mad. Susi, please get help from someone with radio/broadcast expertise: you spend a disproportionate amount of time chortling at (your own) witticisms.

Cain claims that he’s innocent of killing his girlfriend six years ago, and now he wants revenge on the people who put him behind bars. Soon Maggie becomes more than just a hostage to Cain. As they slowly begin to share the secrets of their respective pasts, Maggie discovers that she wants to fight for Cain’s freedom - because he just might be the kind of man she can love.

What did you like best about Maggie's Man? What did you like least?

Lisa Gardner's mysteries are usually among my favorites, but the Family Secrets series does not meet her usual high standards. Maggie''s Man was apparently written during the early days of Gardner's career, when she had not yet found her proper voice. This book has far too much panting, moaning and underwear-shedding for my taste.

Would you recommend Maggie's Man to your friends? Why or why not?

    No - too embarrassing.

    Any additional comments?

Give me more plot and fewer long, drawn-out sex scenes.

The Disorderly Knights is the third volume in The Lymond Chronicles following Queens' Play. Dorothy Dunnett's series is cherished for its romance, adventure, and colorful historical scenes. The year is 1551, and Scottish nobleman Francis Crawford of Lymond has been called to fight with the Knights of Hospitallers to defend the island of Malta against the Turks.

    "Beautifully written, superbly read!"
    Overall

This book, number 3 in the Lymond series, is a fascinating continuation of an exciting Scottish saga. I just wish that Audible would get its act together and obtain the complete series. How frustrating to have enjoyed The Game of Kings, only to find that Audible does not offer the next book in the series, Queen's Play. This is especially surprising, since an audio version is available through Dunnett's British publisher,Whole Story Audio).

The Game of Kings: First in The Lymond Saga. It's August 1547, and unrest in Europe is rife. Scotland, nominally ruled by 4 year old Queen Mary, is heaving with intrigue - and hot gossip. The notorious rebel, Crawford of Lymond, is rumoured to be back in Edinburgh. The city is sealed, but such things never worry 'Lymond'. As usual, he leaves a characteristic trail of hue and cry, vanished contraband, and a drunken sow.

Christopher says: "A new dimension of enjoyment"
    "Fantastic - Finally!"
    Overall

Like others, I have read and re-read Dorothy Dunnett's wonderful historical series. This is a terrific way to enjoy again the twists and turns of the plot, as well as the author's creation of character and scene. My only complaint is that Audible has chosen to make only books 1 and 3 available! I see from the Dunnet website that books 1-4 are already on audio. Get cracking, Audible! This series is a winner!

John Barron was once a top detective in the Los Angeles Police Department's elite 5-2 Squad. A deadly shootout with fellow officers changed his world forever. Taking a new identity, he fled the country he loved and as Nicholas Marten became a landscape architect in the north of England determined to put a life of violence behind him forever. Then suddenly he found himself in Spain ensnared in a massive global conspiracy.

    "Flat Narrative, Poorly Read"
    Overall

Unconvincing adventures of testosterone-charged road warrior. Characters are underdeveloped, 2-dimensional. Narrator struggles unsuccessfully with rapid changes among accents (his version of German is particularly painful). Listener must endure numerous, one-sided Blackberry conversations- we suffer sufficiently from these in real life, why replicate as "entertainment"?

Fleur Savagar is the most beautiful woman in the world . . . to everyone but herself. With her oversized hands and paddle-boat feet, her streaky blond hair and funny green eyes, she lives a life filled with secrets that began before she was born. That was when her bewitching mother left home to find James Dean and met Errol Flynn instead. Now Fleur has to grow up quickly, and life won't make that easy.

    Overall

Susan Elizabeth Phillips' books are always a treat and "Glitter Baby" is no exception, with one minor complaint. This recording is marred, for me, by the addition of a muzak-like audio loop that intrudes up at odd moments. It's as if the studio needed to splice two bits of tape together and decided to distract the listener with 'on hold' music.

After the death of her former husband, her priority has been to provide for her two young children. But the world of horseracing is often rife with treachery and corruption. Having been betrayed by a family of owners and lost seven horses as a result, Jan is desperate.

In Rome's crowded Campo dei Fiori, a woman rushes up to two carabinieri lounging in their sunglasses and uniforms, insisting that her 16-year-old daughter has just been abducted. Detective Nic Costa sees the scene unfold and intervenes. Because Costa knows what the two officers don't: that in the morgue at Rome's police headquarters, a forensic pathologist is examining the strange, mummified corpse of another girl, whose disappearance and death bear haunting similarities.

In the summer of 1977, Terri Jentz and her Yale roommate, Shayna Weiss, make a cross-country bike trip. They pitch a tent in the desert of central Oregon. As they are sleeping, a man in a pickup truck deliberately runs over the tent. He then attacks them with an ax. The horrific crime is reported in newspapers across the country. No one is ever arrested. Both women survive, but Shayna suffers from amnesia, while Terri is left alone with memories of the attack. Their friendship is shattered.

The text is interesting, but the narrator has a real problem pronouncing the "s" sound! I found it very distracting. Speech correction required!

With her disarming, intimate, completely accessible voice, and dry sense of humor, Nora Ephron shares with us her ups and downs in I Feel Bad About My Neck, a candid, hilarious look at women who are getting older and dealing with the tribulations of maintenance, menopause, empty nests, and life itself.

Not since the publication of his own beloved classic Lonesome Dove has there been a novel like this one, another big, brilliant, unputdownable saga of the West from Larry McMurtry. Telegraph Days is at once a major work of literature and a completely absorbing read, not just great fiction, but fiction on a great scale.

Ron says: "Good McMurtry, not great"
    "Simply great!"

Well written, well narrated. A super book that I could have gone on listening to for many hours more.
