This is not Charlotte Bronte's best book and at times it is a bit tedious but an enjoyable experience in spite of this.
I listened to this brilliant performance after the completion of the series. The acting and script are excellent. Lots of humour are evoked by the performance and I found it to be highly entertaining and faithful to Trollope's work. Excellent.
This is a social commentary and uses humour and satire to make political points. It is well narrated and the story is entertaining. Not my favourite book but interesting.
The story is wonderful and describes the setting with a perfect amount of detail. The characters are fully developed and their foibles are both comical and infuriating but above all presented as people that we care deeply about as the story proceeds. Money and love play a part in the story. The moral questions of life are sifted and answered and although this all occurs in a time past, the universal nature of such struggles makes this book engrossing for today's reader. The narration is simply perfection.
The series is developed in this story. Human fragilities abound and philosophical problems are presented and examined. Marriage as a love match and an economic and practical matter are found in this and other Trollope novels. Manners and social gender roles are described and this adds to the story. A delightful addition to a fabulous series.
I did not wish to read this book but when I did, I fell in love with it. The writing is brilliant and the book is well structured. Narration in this performance is perfect. Edith Wharton is a consummate story-teller. Read this book and you will realize why she is so highly regarded.
This book ties all the loose ends of the series together. The performance is masterly and the story delightful. Trollope evokes a setting that becomes tangible to the reader and the characters are ones for which one feels deeply. I was sad to say good-bye to this wonderful series.
This is a charming bit of escapism. It is an optimistic story and I enjoyed it a lot. A bit of fun.
This book is fascinating and really captures the era with lots of accurate historical references and details. The story is dark and spooky. I loved the style of writing which is vivid and succinct. The whole experience of this performance is thrilling.
The protagonist, Dr Thorne is a character for which the reader becomes quite fond. He is a complex and strong character. The dilemmas which the author presents are typical of those of the time and setting. This book is part of a series and I enjoyed it immensely. Characters become part of the overall saga and this in itself is interesting. The performance is brilliant.
The book is simply beautiful and the narration is perfect. A sheer joy from start to end.
If you like Trollope, you must read this book and the others in the series. Timothy West is the perfect reader for this work. Brilliant!
