    Story

I have read or listened to nearly every one of Michael Connelly's books and this one does not disappoint. The narrator is excellent and after listening to several Harry Bosch books read by Mr. Cairou, it is difficult to imagine listening to a Harry Bosch book with anyone other than Len Cairou telling the story. As always the story is gripping from the start, the pacing is perfect and sustains your interest through the entire book. Highly recommended.

The Ruins follows two American couples enjoying a pleasant, lazy beach holiday together in Mexico. On an impulse, they go off with newfound friends in search of one of their group, the young German who, in pursuit of a girl, has headed for the remote Mayan ruins, site of a fabled archeological dig.

    Overall

Slow and depressing -- was happy for this book to finally end. The Ruins proceeds, almost in real time to cover every action and thought of the characters over the course of several days. The result is that the book is painful and tedious to listen to. I could not wait for these characters to die.
