I enjoy Dennis Leary, but I've learned, in small doses! I bought this book because I LOVED Steve Martin's autobiography "Born Standing Up" and thought it would be fun to listen to another celebrity read their book. Problem is that I'm a left-leaning woman, and "Dr." Leary's ranting just grated on my nerves. I know, I know, he says I need to grow a sense of humor, but I've heard it all before around the dining room table from my "holier-than-thou" (male) relatives! I could only listen for about 30 minutes and I had to turn it off. I'm thinking about deleting it...not sure I want to give it another try or not. So, beware, if you're a woman with liberal leanings, this might not be the book for you.

I bought this on a special sale -- it was $4.95! And I'm SO glad I bought it!! I'm a littled bummed the second in the series is abridged...but no matter...I'm gonna go through the whole series. Will Patton is FANTASTIC and James Lee Burke is a master story teller!

I really loved this book...and the sequels...I'm up to the third one and I find them all big fun! It's going to be one of those series that I will be sad to have it finish. I look forward to my commute time so I can catch up on my listening. I guess I'm a bit of a girl-geek who loves history...maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much. It reminds me of the Ken Follet books about the middle-ages, which I enjoyed as well!

Also learned a valuable lesson -- I shouldn't put too much stock in reviews, since this book got such bad ones and if I'd read those before I bought the book I might not have.

Richard Thomas did a fantastic job reading this book. It's a bit simplistic...but still very enjoyable summer reading!

I love these books! Everything about them! The stories are great...Craig Johnson's character development is wonderful...the scenery he paints with his words is fantastic. Great books!

With all due respect to Mr. Hermann, he reads this book so sloooooooowly it's agonizing! I want desperately to keep listening, but I can only listen in short segments because it's maddening! He pauses between words, never mind sentences! Why oh why did he read this so SLOWLY? It's a good story, I just might trying speeding up my ipod to listen though.

This was a great listen! Engaging, funny and heartfelt. Made me laugh, made me cry, made me appreciate my life as a born and bred American. Highly recommend it.
