"Mental forehead smack! CAN'T READ THESE ANYMORE!!"
"Mental forehead smack", "I'm not ashamed to say" that I "soooo" can't read any more of these books!!! It's actually a real shame because these books have so much potential to be fun with a little touch of "who dunnit" but I got to the point when I knew she was going to say "mental forehead smack" and would cringe knowing it was coming. It was incredibly annoying! I'm also curious to know how many times this author used any variation of "to say"... "I'm happy to say", I'm not ashamed to say", "I'm ashamed to say", "I'm embarassed me to say". If it was not at least 50 times in this book, I'd be shocked. And the same goes for the word "soooo". "I am "soooo" not going in there", "Ramirez is going to be "soooo" not happy with me", "this is sooo not working out the way I thought it would".... I think I remember that being a pretty cool saying about 15 years ago and is probably even OK a couple of times in a book but again, it appeared as often as "to say" and "mental forehead smack" and just got to the point of utter annoyance!
I had hoped that book two would have had less of these irritations, because I like the idea of a series of books that I can follow and look forward to buying the next in the series. But with these ones, I could only look forward to them ending. Sorry, just can't buy another.
"Still as great as ever!"
This one was just as good as the others! Had to fast forward through some particularly gruesome parts but aside from that, loved the book!
"LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Kyra and Gabra combo!!!"
Kyra Davis is such a fun author!!! I have LOVED every Sophie book I have listened to (i.e. all of them!). So long as she writes them I will buy them, every single one is a sure bet! And Gabra Zachman is a marvelous actor! She brings each character back exactly as she has performed them in every other reading of this series! Not an easy task I'm sure but she performs each character with brilliance! It is in fact because of Gabra that I started listening to the Sophie Katz series (I loved her performances in other audible purchases) so thank you Gabra for introducing me to Kyra's books, they are just great!
"Audible, how did you not step in and say NO HARLAN"
I don't blame Harlan Coben for this, I blame Audible! Did Michael Connely not teach you anything about the disaster of letting authors narrarate their own books?!?!?! It is such a shame because the story was awesome but it was such a miserable experience having to listen to Harlan's speed-reading and his swallowing of every syllable and and his terrible renditions of the characters we have come to love via Jonathan Morosz' performance of them.
When I purchased the book, I completely missed the fact that Mr. Coben was the narrarator and then I started listening! I almost didn't make it past the third chapter when, mercifully, at teh very least Harlan started to slow down. He never did enunciate any words all the way through the reading though and the description of "Yogi Bear" given in other reviews was bang on for describing the voices that Harlan was portraying!
I don't understand why, after all of the compliants, Audible have not had this book re-recorded?!??!
Again, it is a real shame because the story itself is the best I have read yet, but, again, I cannot say I enoyed the book, the narrarting was just too painful!
Harlan please, please, please stick to writing in the future, you are a genious at it.
"Loved it!"
I find it amazing how many people disliked this book! I just loved it! I'm not a dog fanatic either. I just thought it was fun, exciting and a great easy read (er...listen) and I found it hard to step away from it!
"Great suspense, great author!"
I read Every Waking Moment and loved the book so much I looked for other books by Brenda Novak. I was not disappointed when I bought the entire "Dead" trilogy. She is a wonderful author who has created the perfect mix of Romance and suspense.
"I loved it!"
I've read all three of the books in this series and they are fantastic! This author is hilarious and still manages to keep the suspense! And I actually look for books read by Gabra Zackman now because I love the way she narrates as well
