In Brooklyn Bones, a crime of the past comes much too close to home when Erica Donato’s teenage daughter, Chris, finds a skeleton behind a wall in their crumbling Park Slope home. Erica - a young widow, overage history PhD candidate, and product of blue-collar Brooklyn - is drawn into the mystery when she learns that the skeleton is of an unknown teenage girl and that it was hidden there within living memory. Erica and Chris are both touched and disturbed by the mysterious tragedy in their own home.

This book truly caught me by surprise. So many stories follow the same story over and over, but not this novel. A truly original plot except for the body in the wall. I never guessed who until you told me.

Tim Underhill, now an acclaimed novelist, travels back to his home - town of Millhaven, Illinois after he gets a call from John Ransom, an old army buddy. Ransom believes there’s a copycat killer on the loose, mimicking the Blue Rose murders from decades earlier - he thinks his wife could be a potential victim. Underhill seeks out his friend Tom Pasmore, an aging hermit who has attained minor celebrity as an expert sleuth, to help him investigate. They quickly discover that Millhaven is a town plagued by horrifying secrets....

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

There are some good insights to the human nature in this book. Certain sections are compelling, but the story loses stide from time to time.

What could Peter Straub have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Create a Readers Digest version keeping the better parts and losing the extra verbage that is truly unnecessary.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I felt the narration hurt this story. Some of the highlights were not read with the intensity they deserved.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I will not listen to it a second time.

On Manhattan’s Upper East Side, a woman lies dead at the bottom of a brownstone’s basement steps, stripped of all her valuables. Most cops might call it a mugging gone wrong, but Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better. A well-off accountant and a beloved wife and mother, Marta Dickenson doesn’t seem the type to be on anyone’s hit list. But when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the brownstone, she knows Marta’s murder is the work of a killer who’s trained, yet not professional or smart enough to remove all the evidence.

What did you love best about Calculated in Death?

Once again the story kept me interested from beginning to end. If you love any of the "in death" novels, you will fall in love with this book. Not as suspencefull as some of her novels; however, you get the thrill of the chase and get to catch up on the beloved characters.

What did you like best about this story?

    Peabody as a sex symbol.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The nuances of her voices makes you believe several people are reading.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Even the wealthy are greedy for ...

    Any additional comments?

Cannot wait for the next edition of this series.

From the New York Times best-selling author of Comes the Dark, Stealing Faces, The Shadow Hunter, and Last Breath comes psychological thriller Next Victim. This time Prescott really outdoes himself as an FBI agent closes in on the serial killer who murdered her lover - just as the killer gets his hands on a chemical weapon that could raise his body count to thousands of victims.

Once again Nevada Barr takes you on a journey through one of The National Parks. While entertaining you with a great "Who Done It", she allows you to go on a tour of Isle Royale. After reading other books by Nevada Barr, I had to visit the National Park. This book was no exception. What a great way to get a sneak peak at your next vacation spot. She can make you laugh one minute and have you biting your lip the next. A must read for Nevada Barr fans.
