This was a interesting book to listen to. Listening was enhanced with the readers ability put the right inflection at just the right time. You'll enjoy. Great story that will intrigue you and make you want more.
Demille & Brick make a great team and while Brick delivered the material he had to work with was a bit off. All in all though an enjoyable listen.
Great storyline, narrator, a nice blend of believability with a fast pace and few slow areas.
I really want to listen to more from this author.
Before I realized my mistake I was too drawn into the story not to finish and decided I just had to start at the beginning. I have enjoyed this book even more because of what I had learned from reading a bood out of sequence. It did not let me down.
Expatiations, numbing & disappointment
I was stunned that such a good story teller couldn't find an ending that was equal to the whole story. I must say it was one of the worse endings that I personally have had to endure and to me that was a shame.
I pretty much enjoyed most of them, but I did notice a quality fall off in the later books. There were just too many to have a significant difference that would allow for a positive identitification of who they were while going through the books. He did a great job and deserves kudos for it.
There was potential for a great finish, but Martin's need for the never ending detail of a particular scene can wear one out. In reflecting on the whole story there were few really feel good points throughout, pretty much a disaster for one group or another. Really no real winners or true losers because in the end everyone lost.....
I was expecting the series to end in a furious climax but it turned out to be a fizzle and a big diasppointment to me. Perhaps most will like it, but for me it was too many loose ends and questionable ends for the different cast members that I followed throughout the story. He spun a great tale only to lose it at the end.
While I supported President Bush by voting for him. I had questioned some of his decision making and the bringing of the o'le boys club from his father's cabinet into his. While the book is insightful, it may have raised more questions than questions answered for me. The shame of it all is that dreadful day 9/11/01 which totally turned our and his world upside down, it would have been interesting to see what would have happened had that day not occurred. I believe in his decision making for the most part. However, I thought he could have done better in dealing with President Putin of Russia. In particular by personally attending the ceremony of Bayone WTC Memorial which dedicated to us by President Putin from the Russian people thus aligning us in the fight against a common enemy, an opportunity missed in my opinion. As for President Bush's stance in the fight against terror, I firmly believe that a lessor man would have caved to the pressure to withdraw, thankfully he had the will and determination to see it through. It was interesting to see that President Obama used pretty much the same words describing our enemy in his May 2011 speach, that President Bush did in his closing remarks. A coincidence? Odd how the world changes when the decisions fall on someone elses sholders. Under the circumstances that changed President Bush's presidency the path he took was not great but not bad either. The book is worth the listen.
While listening it was difficult not to have much empathy for the Southern soldier of the Civil War. The incredible hardships and desperate situations they faced for almost the entire war would be overwhelming to lesser men. The twist was that in the end they realized win or lose slavery was at an end, yet they fought on. It was an intersting insight into the thoughts and delimmas they faced and died for, what a waste. All-in-all it was a good book well written and eazy to listen to.
Although this stretched the belivability factor it was a fun listen even with the wacko's. Keep finding yourself saying "yeah how can that be?", but it is worth it, if your looking to be entertained.
You'll have a hard time turing this one off. Very enjoyable, good story, great mix of humor and seriousness. Bad guy is slippery as an eel and seems to be always just beyond reach, a twisted ending. Listening to this one will be worth your time, you'll be glad you did.
This was a fun book to listen to, in typical Grisham fashion, lots of twists and and turns. As usual they get into impossible situations and escape. You will enjoy even with those flaws, I know I did.
