Scott Turow has written a supercharged, exquisitely suspenseful novel about a vicious triple murder and the man condemned to die for it. No other writer offers such a profound understanding of what is at stake when the state holds the power to end a man's life.

This book offers a very different perspective on our legal system. It is much more about the system than about the man who is rightly/wrongly sentenced to death row. It was captivating and I recommend it highly.

Tana French's debut, In the Woods, hit the New York Times best-seller list and drew rave reviews from the Times (London) and Booklist. Picking up six months later, this riveting sequel finds Detective Cassie Maddox still scarred by her last case. When her boyfriend calls her to a chilling murder scene, Cassie is forced to face her inner demons. A young woman has been found stabbed to death outside Dublin, and the victim looks just like Cassie.

What made the experience of listening to The Likeness the most enjoyable?

The main character was a very capable young woman who had suffered mental and emotional damage on a previous police case. She took on this case at great personal risk to her safety and mental health. I enjoyed the premise of a "look alike". I also enjoyed the premise of the college students who became house mates and friends. The book was well written and the narrator did an outstanding job. I would highly recommend this book and this narrator. The book was very long, but it held my interest until the very end.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    "Water for Elephants - wonderful"
    Overall

This book was wonderful - beginning to end. It is a great listen. The narrators did a terrific job. I enjoyed it so much that I listened to it twice! The historical aspects of the period made the book very interesting. I had no idea how circus's came to perform in towns across the country or what it took to make that happen. This book is about the personal relationships in the complex higherarchy of the circus world. The love story was not the over riding theme, infact it did not surface until 1/2 way through the story, but it made me more vested in the main characters. I highly recommend this book.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

    Overall

This was an amazing book. I listend to it twice. It took me back to 1963 when I was a teen and oblivous to racial issues. This book brings out so many of those issues by wrapping them in a story about a young southern socialite who is beginning to see her friends and their "help" in a different light. The pace of the book is just right. The narators are marvelous. I absolutely loved this book.
