This book was entertaining for the first few hours but it is too drawn out; nothing of consequence happens and it gets tedious. The fact that it takes 3 volumes to tell this story says it all. It's almost insulting to be strung along by the author like this - does she get paid by the word?
The narrator, although a fine reader, was not a good match for a tall, dark, and handsome protagonist.
The writing was occasionally trite but the story moved along at a good pace and was fascinating. The author turned some horrific events into an uplifting tale of perseverance. Seemed to be well researched. Reading was excellent.
I struggled to finish this book because the sappy, clich? ridden dialogue became unbearable. I held on hoping a decent story would unfold. As it turned out the story had potential but the poor writing style stripped it of all suspense or drama.
Anyone who has ever loved and appreciated a real character underneath all that fur will enjoy this book. Having a Golden myself I identified with the author and his special relationship with Merle.
The writing is choppy. The reading uninspired.
