The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

This book made an excellent audio book thanks to the narrator's talent. I am sure it would also make a lovely read.

Overall I enjoyed this audiobook. At times it moved slow and the narration was somewhat monotone but the changing of character voices was quite good. The story wasn't new but had a nice point of view and, in this day and age, I think we all need a reminder of the World's promise of "never again."

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. "Jess and Jason," she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

If they don't make a movie out of this one, Hollywood is crazy!
I don't know what was better, the story or the narration.

Pirriwee Public's annual school Trivia Night has ended in a shocking riot. One parent is dead. The school principal is horrified. As police investigate what appears to have been a tragic accident, signs begin to indicate that this devastating death might have been cold-blooded murder. In this thought-provoking novel, number-one New York Times best-selling author Liane Moriarty deftly explores the reality of parenting and playground politics, ex-husbands and ex-wives, and fractured families.

So refreshingly different and spot on to the world of parents of school age children! The narration was perfect, especially with the challenge of so many female and male voices. Thanks for an enticing listen!

What did you like best about this story?

Not a typical JP but well written and moving. Despite having to listen over a few weeks it kept my interest even only catching 15 minutes at a time sometimes. Always looked forward to going back to listening.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

I didn't think this was the genre that it turned out to be but I wound up really enjoying the story, characters and narration. I listen to a lot of narrations and this one was very well done. There were several male and female characters as well as sound effects that couldn't have been easy but the narrator kept them clear and not hokey as they could have easily been. The author took on a lot and could have made the plot a little tighter but overall it was an attention keeping thriller!

For the first time in unabridged audio! A small Kansas town has turned into a killing ground. Is it a serial killer, a man with the need to destroy? Or is it a darker force, a curse upon the land? Amid golden cornfields, FBI Special Agent Pendergast discovers evil in the blood of America's heart.
