Perhaps one of the most influential and controversial books in history, Machiavelli’s The Prince raises issues that are still debated centuries after its publication. The theories he developed in The Prince were derived from his observation of the successes and failures of the ruling class. The Prince was designed as a practical guide for newly appointed rulers and is required reading for all persons in a position of authority who strive for grandeur in business and politics.

I think the audio was too bad to tell if I liked either the author or the narrator

Catch-22 is set in the closing months of World War II, in an American bomber squadron on a small island off Italy. Its hero is a bombardier named Yossarian, who is frantic and furious because thousands of people he hasn't even met keep trying to kill him. (He has decided to live forever, even if he has to die in the attempt.)

I get a little tired of the people who say that "if you dont like it, its because you dont understand it" I think its more likely that people who say they like this book, actually think its quite terrible and only say they like it because it makes them feel like part of the intelligent crowd. I think it is also quite possible that because you hate this book you will also love it for this very reason. Yosarian is a part of my soul that I've never laid a name to. I hate this with a passion though I cannot deny the truth of the matter. Read the book and learn a little something about yourself but feel free to hate it. You won't be an idiot becasue of it.

"My name is Kvothe. I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep...."

Do not fear the length of this book unless you fear loosing yourself in Rothfuss's world for too long. It is an excellent story that had me laughing and hoping for its entire length. The only problem that i have with it, is that I have to wait for the third book.. The characters are well developed and the world is believable.
    *************************** Small Spoiler****************************************
I did find it a bit odd that Kvothe being so chaste in the first book, became the snogging pro by the end of this one. Maybe a little too much time was spent on this, though it did work to build his legend...

I started this series with trepidation due to there being something not quite right with the tone of the narrators voice. I quickly overcame this and fell deeply entranced with the story. This is a great book and I highly reccomend it. Get past the beginning and find yourself emersed in this new and interresting land. I look forward to the second book.

No discussion of great modern authors is complete without mention of Cormac McCarthy, whose rare and blazing talent makes his every work a true literary event. A grand addition to the American literary canon, Suttree introduces readers to Cornelius Suttree, a man who abandons his affluent family to live among a dissolute array of vagabonds along the Tennessee river.

The imagery is clear. the narration couldnt have been better and the story is superbly odd, grousome, wounderful, and relateable all mixed together.

  • Tactics: A Game Plan for Discussing Your Christian Convictions

In a world increasingly indifferent to Christian truth, followers of Christ need to be equipped to communicate with those who do not speak their language or accept their source of authority. Gregory Koukl demonstrates how to get in the driver’s seat, keeping any conversation moving with thoughtful, artful diplomacy. You’ll learn how to maneuver comfortably and graciously through the minefields, stop challengers in their tracks, turn the tables and—most importantly—get people thinking about Jesus.

Koukl walks you through a deliberate process that will help you deal with many objections raised by atheists who, it would seem have not thought out their stance quite as we'll as they would like to have you believe. This book is a great place to start and surprisingly complete with many examples that will have you thinking more clearly than you have been. I highly reccomend this book as a resource for Christians.

But when a wandering wizard captivates him with tales of the unknown, Bilbo becomes restless. Soon he joins the wizard’s band of homeless dwarves in search of giant spiders, savage wolves, and other dangers. Bilbo quickly tires of the quest for adventure and longs for the security of his familiar home. But before he can return to his life of comfort, he must face the greatest threat of all.

The frontiersmen were a remarkable breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Want to join the “superhumans”? Luckily you don’t have to run to catch up with them, thanks to McDougall’s and Sanders’ inspiring (and motivating) journey through history, science, physiology, health, entertaining characters and unlikely friendships. Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, cutting-edge science, and, most of all, pure inspiration, Born to Run is an epic adventure.

The story was captivating and kept me rivetted to my ipod for the duration. The people were real and interresting and the narration was great. I dont often choose audiobooks that are terrible and this one is no exception. It will be listened to over and over for the next few months.

Would you listen to Post Captain again? Why?

I would definately listen to Post Captain again! It was a great book and the narration is wonderful. I love the way Tull reads it!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I cant say I have a favorite character. Both Jack and Steven are great!

Have you listened to any of Patrick Tull’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I listened to Master and Commander and he did a great job reading it. Post Captain does not dissapoint.

Who was the most memorable character of Post Captain and why?

Steven seemed to play some of the most important pieces of this story. We really find out more about him here.
