I did not like the format of letters. Some people may really like this but it isn't for me.
Nice ending, saw it coming, but that doesn't make it bad.
Visit Guernsey someday
This story was just so-so for me. I liked learning about Guernsey and its history. It's a part of the world I knew nothing about. I had no idea it had been occupied during the WW2. I also enjoyed all the quirky island characters. Other than that, the story didn't really do anything for me and I really can't say exactly why. The plot seems unlikely, but many books are about unlikely things and I still enjoy them. Maybe the story was too all over the place and had loose ends. Oh well, win some, lose some.
Charming, seductive, classic
I loved hearing the old fashioned sayings the characters use. I also love that each character has their own little catchphrases that the narrator highlights perfectly. But of course, I love Anne! She captivates the characters if the book, as well as the reader. She gets into great micpschief but always has the best additude. I have listened to this more than once!
This was my first Mary Sarah narration. I am hooked, she was great. I am sorry that she does not narrate the whole series. I sampled other narrators for the Anne of Green Gables series, and Mary is the best! Perfect cadence and emphasis on the right words. I can't imangine enjoying the story as much with out her. She brings Anne's rants to life!
Yes I did laugh! You never know what will come out of Anne's mouth! And Mrs. Lynd says equally ridiculous things although they are not so kind.
This story and narration by Mary Sarah has become like Linus' blanket for me and I love to listen to it anytime I want to relax and escape to Avonlea.
I would listen to this book again. The scenery and characters are too beautiful not to revisit.
I really loved the transformations of Betty and her granddaughter. They both had lives filled so many new chapters. It was great to see how much a person could change throughout their life.
I think betty was my fav
Charlie Harris! What a guy! I also really enjoyed the granddaughter though
I purchased this book for really cheap on an audible sale page, and I didn't have I hopes. WOW, it surprised me! This is a story and a geography that will stay with me forever to be sure :) it was also great to hear Caroline Lee's voice, I really enjoy her work!
The twist towards the end
I think any scene involving the cliffs and the water
Lovely story, kind of adventurous and of course unrealistic, but you know that before you buy it. I love this author's stories and this isn't my favorite but the scenery, romance, adventure and historical aspect are all extremely satisfying.
The story line and journey of the mother
The eldest daughter
Very memorable story, I love the twists and turns! I also enjoyed the descriptions of war time in England, they really brought me to that place and time. This is a story that has really stuck with me and it comes back to me from time to time.
entertaining, informative, relaxing
Too many !
When Cora has a orange soda in the Italian deli with the German man
Great story with unusual twists and turns! I came to love Cora and her journey. This was a entertaining yet relaxing story. I recognized the narrator's voice from Downton Abbey because she has a unique sound. I really enjoyed her narration, very relaxing and well spoken.
I liked how the story spanned many decades, it made you see the changes of time.
I did not like the fact that each character was introduced, but then you never find out what happens to them later in their life. I also didn't like how the story had no beginning, middle and end. It was just a story about a bitter woman's sad life that never changed for the good or the bad.
The most interesting aspect was learning about Jim Crow laws and the role of Philadelphia as an opportunity for southern African Americans. The least interesting was Hattie's life.
When Bell (I think) goes to the medicine woman's house for juju
Disappointed in the story. It only gave a glimpse into the lives of her children and Hattie never grew as a person. Life doesn't always have happy endings but that's why I read books. If I wanted to witness a sad story about someone who never grew, I could just look around me.
mysterious, exotic, adventurous
Yes at moments it did. I did not suspect the character that ended up being the nemesis.
Good mystery story, I love the historical aspect the most. Istanbul was brought to life for me. I especially appreciate the food descriptions. The story was good, a little unrealistic/fanciful but surprising and not too scary. Very suspenseful at moments!
informative, adventurous, historical
The father was my favorite
The book will take you all over Europe on an adventure! Just the right amount of suspense, and romance. I really felt like I was in Istanbul, Hungary and Romania. This book sparked a new intrigue in me for this part of the world!! I also found the main male character's voice very soothing.
