I usually love Douglas Preston and will continue to seek out his books, however this was not one of his best in my opinion. Tyrannosaur Canyon was an average read - I enjoyed parts of it very much - but I had to make myself finish the book.
the ending seemed ruched and trite. very normal, not what I expect from Mr. Preston.
I think Scott Sowers did a good enough job - again, just good enough. I think the problem may have been the story.
Average book - Douglas Preston has written better.
I am usually quite wary of books that "everyone" says a fantastic. I've had too many disappointments with books that the world-at-large thinks are magnificent (Shades of Gray); But Night Circus-well Night Circus is actually as they say,"Magic". Surprise - this time the world was right!
This book weaves a spell around you - by the time that the story is over, the only thing that you want to do is to find this circus and run to it, fast, far and true.
Ah, but timing is everything. . . .
Yes - I'd like to see how he matures as a writer.
This is an exciting adventure-thriller; plenty of action. Plausible scientific and archaeological theories help the story along as well. Like an action movie with brains.
When the insufferably annoying Dr. was killed. I know it's wrong - but he was such an annoying character.
The story is good, pacing is good - sometimes the dialog seems stilted and simplistic or transitions are sometimes halting. All in all, an above average read. C+ - B-
I enjoyed this book, as did my two daughters. The story was taut and exciting - the characters engaging; Tyler Locke reminded me a lot of Cussler"s Dirk Pitt, but since I love Pitt I don't mind the resemblance if Clive doesn't.
I also enjoyed the twist on Noah's Ark and the flood, strange, yet as plausible as any of the current theories out there.
I found this a perfect summer read - not too light, not too heavy - just right.
