I love these characters, & the story in this middle book of the Australian Trilogy. And I love how Humphrey Bower narrates their voices -- the incredible story continues, & the characters become more & more endearing & inspiring as the story continues.
A dark & difficult story at times, yet once again, great characters with depth & complexity make this a fascinating read. The first book of the Australian Trilogy, I wanted to keep reading to find out what happens in the lives & generations of the Solomon & related families. The story continues in Tommo and Hawk, and then Solomon's Song -- a great saga.
Courtenay creates complex characters & interweaves them in intricate & fascinating ways -- a real pleasure to listen to this wonderful storytelling, especially with Humphrey Bower as the masterful narrator. An awesome read. And what a happy surprise to find the story continues in Fishing For Stars!!!
A continuation of the story of the characters in The Persimmon Tree, this book demonstrates Courtenay's usual masterful weaving of history, politics, romance, love, & all the complexities of human relationships, in wonderful storytelling. Humphrey Bower is an outstanding reader & brings the characters alive.
