  • Transfer of Power: Mitch Rapp Series

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By Vince Flynn
    • Narrated By Nick Sullivan

On a busy Washington morning, the stately calm of the White House is shattered in a deadly terrorist attack on the executive mansion. The president is evacuated to an underground bunker, but not before nearly one hundred hostages are taken. Mitch Rapp, the CIA’s top counterterrorism operative, is sent in to take control of the crisis and determines that the president is not as safe as Washington’s power elite had thought....

    Michael says: "Great Story-Bad Narration"
"Worst Narrator for Vince Flynn books."

Took away stars because I could not listen to this narrated by Nick Sullivan. Maybe the director or producer is at fault, but the result was terrible. Made the characters turn out differently than the other novels. If this had been my first Mitch Rapp book, I would have never read a second. Please redo narration.

  • Sacrificial Magic: Downside Ghosts, Book 4

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Stacia Kane
    • Narrated By Bahni Turpin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Chess Putnam is ordered by an infamous crime boss—who also happens to be her drug dealer—to use her powers as a witch to solve a grisly murder involving dark magic, she knows she must rise to the challenge. Adding to the intensity, her boyfriend, Terrible, doesn’t trust her, and Lex, the son of a rival crime lord, is trying to reignite the old sparks between them.

    Lupdilup says: "JUST MAGIC!"
"Enjoy 1970's ghetto slang & narrator Bahni Turpin"

I hope book five is better because I like Terrible's character, plus the 1970's ghetto slang is fun to hear. I agree with others that this book is not as strong as others. I would have rather had more characters added (and more of the current characters developed) in place of her talking about feeling inadequate. Also, talking about the drugs the same way, so very often, got old. Although I purchased and liked the first three books (and listened to them twice each), I found myself getting bored about 3/4 into this book number four. I hope book five is better so this author can continue to make it.

  • The Outlaw Demon Wails

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 28 mins)
    • By Kim Harrison
    • Narrated By Gigi Bermingham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

To save the lives of her friends, Rachel did the unthinkable: she willingly trafficked in forbidden demon magic. And now her sins are coming home to haunt her. As Rachel searches for the truth behind a terrifying murder, an even greater menace threatens, for the demon Algaliarept will stop at nothing to claim her, and the discovery of a shocking family secret throws Rachel's entire life into question.

Carol says: "Horrible Narration Take 2"
    "Narrator continuity was awful."

I don't know who is suppose to manage this sort of thing, but someone should have helped transition the characters' previous audio development (which was performed wonderfully by Marguerite Gavin in Kim Harrison's first five Hollows books) to this new narrator. After cringing about 20 times, I purchased the book.

I would buy another copy of this audio book if it was re-read by Marguerite Gavin.

Kim Harrison does another great job. Thank you Kim Harrison!

  • Fate's Edge: The Edge, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 18 mins)
    • By Ilona Andrews
    • Narrated By Renée Raudman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In the latest entry in Ilona Andrews's Edge series, Audrey Callahan is determined to stay on the straight and narrow - but when her brother gets into trouble, she takes on one last heist and finds herself matching wits with lawyer, gambler, thief, and spy Kaldar Mar.

Vinity says: "This one is WONDERFUL!"
    "Fastastic listen!"

Fate's Edge is a must listen, as are Ilona Andrew's first two books in this series. The Edge "world" is filled with unique people and fun lands. One book each year is not nearly enough. Plus, Renee Raudman is a perfect choice to bring this world to life. Thank you so much. Written by: an Edger!

    Lifelong Reader says: "Beyond disappointed"
    "Boycott audio purchase?"

Say it isn't so!!!! Wait for Marsters' schedule to open up!!!!! How UNFAIR to all us loyal audio listeners. I am so disappointed, so saddened. Should we boycott this book in audio?

  • Frankenstein, Book Five: The Dead Town

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 5 mins)
    • By Dean Koontz
    • Narrated By Christopher Lane
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The war against humanity is raging. As the small town of Rainbow Falls, Montana, comes under siege, scattered survivors band together to weather the onslaught of the creatures set loose upon the world. As they ready for battle against overwhelming odds, they will learn the full scope of Victor Frankenstein’s nihilistic plan to remake the future - and the terrifying reach of his shadowy, powerful supporters. Now the good will make their last, best stand. In a climax that will shatter every expectation, their destinies and the fate of humanity hang in the balance.

Mark says: "Great End to a Great Series"
"Not up to the quality of Koontz other projects."

Although I enjoyed the first three Frankenstein books in this five-book series, I found book four to be a rip-off of a credit (because it was a rehash of the previous plot, then just kinda ended), and book five to be filled with too many one-liners and unlikely behavior. Sometimes it felt like I was a fly on the wall of some good old boy's poker night. For example, the "on-air talent pep-talk" discussion happening while the world is being invaded seemed ridiculous.

Also, annoying and disappointing was using a southern accent for nearly half the characters who are suppose to reside in Colorado. Either change the venue or the accents next time, please.

I consider myself a Dean Koontz fan since I have well over 25 books and/or audio, but these last two books motivated me to write a review. Sorry.

  • Heart-Shaped Box

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By Joe Hill
    • Narrated By Stephen Lang

Judas Coyne is a collector of the macabre. But nothing he possesses is as unlikely or as dreadful as his latest discovery, a thing so terrible-strange, Jude can't help but reach for his wallet. For a thousand dollars, Jude will become the proud owner of a dead man's suit, said to be haunted by a restless spirit. But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost. It's the real thing.

Lesley says: "Yikes! Five stars for fright"
    "Could not finish it."

Premise was good. But, I did not care about the story or the characters enough to finish the book.

  • Burn: An Anna Pigeon Mystery, Book 16

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs)
    • By Nevada Barr
    • Narrated By Joyce Bean
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Anna Pigeon, a Ranger with the National Park Service, is on administrative leave from her job as she recovers from the traumas of the past couple of months – while the physical wounds have healed, the emotional ones are still healing. With her new husband busy and back at work, Anna decides to go to stay with an old friend from the Park Service, Geneva, who works as a singer at the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park.

Ilah says: "Bring other narrator back!!!!"
"Contains Sexual Child Porn Imagery WARNING"

Had I know about the child porn I would have skipped this one. Have purchased and read ALL her other work. What was she thinking about her loyal fans? Not much apparently. Please do yourself a solid favor and skip this one. I am not kidding. This upset me for days. I avoid this type of writing and feel like I was somehow tricked into paying for this horror. I choose to pay and read Barr's Annie Pigeon series because her character is a national park ranger. (This work should have been with a different heroin, and that would have given us a heads-up about the 180 degree directional change of the series). Warn us more openly next time! I certainly feel like I got burned!

  • Frankenstein, Book Four: Lost Souls

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Dean Koontz
    • Narrated By Christopher Lane
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In Frankenstein: Lost Souls, Dean Koontz puts a singular twist on this classic tale of ambition and science gone wrong, to forge a new legend uniquely suited to our times. It is a story of revenge, redemption, and the thin line that separates human from inhuman.

    Lane says: "Frankenstein Lost Souls"
    "should be 1/2 credit"

Although I love Dean Koontz's books, we should have been warned that this is only half a book.
