I've been a big fan of Stephen L Carter's previous books. He phoned this one in. I'm so disappointed.
I don't understand all the rave reviews about this book. The reviews are so off the charts I felt I had to try it. The first half was really good, I was completely involved. I just don't understand what happened to the second part. It went from a well written book to a shallow young adult melodrama. Excellent narration though.
Mary Beth Hurt needs to narrate more books - I listened to her first with The Darlings by Russell Banks (also an excellent read).
The Good House was an engaging and fun listen.
Love C. Hitchens, enjoyed his previous book and this one but it is almost unbearable to listen to his voice. But great book otherwise and please get well CH.
It's really too bad MC phones in every third book. When he gives it the time and attention, his books are riveting and fun. But every so often, like with this one, it's a ridiculous attempt. I know he can do better, the book that comes after this one was much better. Save yourself.
Clever, funny, smart and riveting. And not only a great narrator but perfect for the protagonist's voice.
One of the best books I've listened to this year. I highly recommend it.
Loved the book, loved the narration.
I finished this a few months ago and I still think about it. Fascinating story, well written. I highly recommend it.
Self indulgent, whiney, I want back each minute I spent listening to this ridiculous book. maybe pre-teen girls might like it.
