A wonderful book, of course. With his minimalist approach, Mr Vonnegut writes seemingly simple prose--a little sci-fi, a little social commentary and all of it easy listening/reading.
But, as Mr Vonnegut himself noted: "wheels w/ in wheels". There is always a story beneath the story... w/ in a story, in the author's work.
In Player..., there is a trace of Bohemian Grove,for instance, a knowledge of which may be trendy in 2010 but less so in 1952 when the book was written. And as for everything else Mr Vonnegut has folded into this work--who knows? I myself am not smart enough to even guess. They say Mr Vonnegut was unhappy, depressed. Why in the world wouldn't he be? It must be terrible to be fated to think that much, to be that smart.
Everybody knows this. I didn't have to say that about Player Piano,I didn't have to to review this book. I just wanted to. Narration by Christian Rummel is also a plus,giving a much
better impression of the author's intentions than perhaps narrators of other Vonnegut books, although they may be better known to Audible listeners. Just an opinion. But thanks for taking your time to read it.
