  • Thoughtless

    • UNABRIDGED (20 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By S. C. Stephens
    • Narrated By Rebekkah Ross
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For almost two years now, Kiera’s boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she’s ever wanted: loving, tender, and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together - Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university - everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart. Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source - a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he’s purely a friend she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes....

    "An Addicting Series"

I read Thoughtless, Effortless, and Reckless in rapid succession. It was my first time reading a romance novel, and I was a little wary to start. It was also during a time in my life when I was experiencing personal loss, and desperately needed to escape reality. These books helped me do just that – I was completely absorbed.

It’s a tough call, but Thoughtless might be my favorite of the three. I love the agonizing back and forth between Kiera and Kellan, and their journey to each other. These books are unbelievably addicting – I hope the author decides to write more with the characters. I’ll even take an Anna/Griffin spin-off.

The narration wasn’t quite what I was expecting. The Kiera in my mind didn’t always match up with the Kiera I was hearing, and I would have preferred more “acting.” Nevertheless, I appreciated getting to enjoy this world in another medium. It helped me pick up on a few subtleties I missed the first time.

  • The Firebird

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Susanna Kearsley
    • Narrated By Katherine Kellgren
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Nicola Marter was born with a gift. When she touches an object, she sometimes glimpses those who have owned it before. When a woman arrives with a small wooden carving at the gallery Nicola works at, she can see the object’s history and knows that it was named after the Firebird - the mythical creature from an old Russian fable. Compelled to know more, Nicola follows a young girl named Anna who leads her into the past on a quest through the glittering backdrops of the Jacobites and Russian courts, unearthing a tale of love, courage, and redemption.

Sue says: "More heavy on the romance than the historical"
    "Beautiful Historical Fiction"

Nicola Marter has a gift - when she touches an object, she can see into its past. When she beholds a small wooden carving called the "Firebird," her abilities transport her to 18th century Russia, where she finds young Anna Moray, one of the object's original owners. As impressive as time travel is, what I kept marveling at was author Susanna Kearsley's writing. She effortlessly entwines two narratives in The Firebird, and manages to make them equally compelling. Her beautiful, rich prose created such vivid images in my mind (enhanced by the always excellent narrator, Katherine Kellgren), that I feel as though I have actually met all of the characters and seen the places we journey to in this book. As soon as I finished listening, I immediately downloaded The Winter Sea, so that I could learn even more about Anna's family. Suffice it to say, Kearsley is quickly becoming my new favorite author.

  • A Case of Redemption

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Adam Mitzner
    • Narrated By Kevin T. Collins
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A high-profile attorney in the middle of a leave of absence following a personal tragedy is drawn back into the legal arena amidst a media firestorm when he agrees to represent a popular rap artist accused of brutally murdering his pop star girlfriend. With its powerful voice, pause-resisting tension, and strong cast of characters, Adam Mitzner’s novels are reminiscent of such best-selling authors as Scott Turow and John Grisham.

"A New Genre for Me - and I'm Hooked!"

This was my first time listening to a legal thriller, and I can safely say I'm hooked. I had always shied away from the genre, assuming that the plots were too fantastical - but this story has a ripped-from-the-headlines feel, creating a relevancy that will attract both newbies like me and established thriller fans. Mitzner delivers a character driven narrative, while seamlessly blending romance, criminal law, and suspense, keeping me guessing until the very end. Kevin T. Collins does a marvelous job narrating - the emotion that he pours into each character captivated me from the start. I felt all of the triumphs and setbacks of the case, and I found myself deeply invested in its outcome. I really hope that this duo works together again, but in the meantime I'm going hunting for more from both the author and the narrator.

  • Bossypants

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Tina Fey
    • Narrated By Tina Fey

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told....

Warren says: "Tina Fey broke my new SUV"
"Live From Your iPod, it’s Tina Fey!"

I read Bossypants when it first came out a few years ago, and I absolutely loved it. I remember laughing out loud at Tina’s sarcastic voice and unapologetic recounting of her glamorous childhood (see that – sarcasm. Tina would get it). I can’t believe it took me so long to listen to the audiobook. Actually hearing her tell these stories made them all the more funny.

I admire her confidence, and even found it a little infectious while listening to her. It’s refreshing to hear someone be so secure in who they are, and who they were – and her story is just so relatable.

I also became super envious of her little shout-outs to Amy Poehler. How can I get in on that friendship? It made me long for their SNL days. I hope they work together again soon…maybe on an audiobook? I’ll take another co-hosting awards show gig at the very least.

My one complaint is that the audio seems to fade out a bit at the end of each chapter, and you lose a little of what Tina says. But she’s just so endearing, I can’t stay mad for long.
