  • Anna Karenina

    • UNABRIDGED (33 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Leo Tolstoy
    • Narrated By Nadia May
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Considered by some to be the world's greatest novel, Anna Karenina contains two plots: the tragedy of Madame Karenina, in love with a man who is not her husband; and the story of Konstantine Levin, a sensitive man whose personal philosophy is Tolstoy's reason for writing about him.

    D. Littman says: "A classic, classically read"
    "Horrible Horrible Horrible"

I have never read anything so meaningless, plotless, and confusing. Names so close, you couldnt tell who was who, there was no main characters, it just jumped around. Im shocked at anyone that would rate this more than one star... i have read a lot of books and never rated anything this low.. but i was just so disappointed :(

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

    "Wayyyy too long"

I love long stories but not this one... went on and on and on with details that were not necessary. The story was good but i would go with an abridged on this one...

  • A Prayer for Owen Meany

    • UNABRIDGED (27 hrs and 20 mins)
    • By John Irving
    • Narrated By Joe Barrett

Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

    Maxine Fuentes says: "Wonderful"
"What a heart warming story :)"

Felt a little slow at the beginning but once the story got going, what a nice surprise.... i almost cried at the end even though i knew what was coming. I will recommend this book to anyone that likes a good hearted story... reminded me of the movie Forrest Gump

  • Tears in the Darkness: The Story of the Bataan Death March and Its Aftermath

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 18 mins)
    • By Michael Norman, Elizabeth Norman
    • Narrated By Michael Prichard
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For the first four months of 1942, U.S., Filipino, and Japanese soldiers fought what was America's first major land battle of World War II, the battle for the tiny Philippine peninsula of Bataan. It ended with the surrender of 76,000 Filipinos and Americans, the single largest defeat in American military history. The defeat, though, was only the beginning, as Michael and Elizabeth M. Norman make dramatically clear in this powerfully original book.

    Parusski says: "Riveting and heartbreaking"
"If you are a woman, you will hate this"

I'm sorry but this was horrible... very long and drawn out on wayyy too many details. The speaker was horrible and i was very disappointed. Ladies, its more of a male book with details of one death after another.. chose another book!!!

  • The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 23 mins)
    • By Lawrence Wright
    • Narrated By Alan Sklar
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

This is a sweeping narrative history of the events leading to 9/11, a groundbreaking look at the people and ideas, the terrorist plans, and the Western intelligence failures that culminated in the assault on America. Lawrence Wright's remarkable book is based on five years of research and hundreds of interviews that he conducted in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sudan, England, France, Germany, Spain, and the United States.

    John says: "Riveting... Sobering... Chilling..."
    "Details details and details"

I really wanted to read the history but wayyy too many names that all sounded the same and very complicated to understand. Unless you are an avid follower of the details, this information goes in one ear and out the other. However, i did learn a lot and was very distressed of what really goes on in this world.
