On the eve of her ninth birthday, unassuming Rose Edelstein, a girl at the periphery of schoolyard games and her distracted parents' attention, bites into her mother's homemade lemon-chocolate cake and discovers she has a magical gift: she can taste her mother's emotions in the cake. She discovers this gift to her horror, for her mother - her cheerful, good-with-crafts, can-do mother - tastes of despair and desperation.

    "Ultimately a good listen."
    Overall

At first I had a very difficult time listening to the narration; the narrators voice was so grating and her inflections jarring. After awhile the story became so adsorbing that I realized it wasn't bothering me any more and indeed, I felt it was appropriate to the character. I didn't like the ending- it was a little bit hard to swallow; and that is why I gave it four out of five stars.

People start dropping dead around Charlie, giant ravens perch on his building, and it seems that everywhere he goes, a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad, and before he knows it, those people end up dead, too. Yup, it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job, an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death.

"Captivating story + the perfect narrator."
    Overall

This was the first Christopher Moore book I've experienced, and after reading a few others I rate this as my favorite. His sarcastic humor is thoroughly entertaining, the story kept me captivated from page one right until the end, and Fisher Stevens was the perfect narrator for this story.

Don't listen to this while your driving unless you have a large pile of tissues nearby! This was my first book by Anna Quindlen; she is a beautifully descriptive writer. A few times I found myself really disliking the main character, and I'm not sure if that was the intended reaction; however, it was a touching and emotional story and I highly recommend this audiobook.

Tristran Thorn has lost his heart to the hauntingly beautiful Victoria Forester. One crisp October night, as they watch, a star falls from the sky, and Victoria promises to marry Tristran if he'll retrieve the star and bring it back for her. It is this promise that sends Tristran on the most unforgettable adventure of his life.

This was a great story; it could have been an epic. I would have rated it higher except I wish it had been longer... too much was glossed over. However, it was still enjoyable and I would recommend it.

For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is even more dangerous than Bella ever could have imagined. Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of one evil vampire, but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realize their troubles may be just beginning.

I enjoyed book 2 of the Twilight series, although at times I did get a bit frustrated with the dynamics of the Edward/Bella relationship, which seemed to get dragged out. I wished I could speed up the narration at those points. The beginning wasn't great and I thought perhaps the magic was lost once the suspense of "will they or won't they" get together was gone; however, it definitely improved and once again I found myself sitting in the driveway not wanting to turn the car off!

About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

I really enjoyed this audiobook, and the narrator matches exactly how the lead character should sound. I was surprised that this fell under teen fiction, because I am far from fitting in that category. It caught my attention right at page one and held it through to the end... then I went an bought book 2!
