This was a powerful, beautiful, heartbreaking, happy, rich and full journey. Molly's story is one that will touch the heart and soul of anyone who reads/hears it and will have you cheering for her from start to finish. Lee Smith is a master and this is most certainly in her top 5!
I loved this audiobook so much, I will be buying the print version to have for when I have more sedentary time in my life. The characters are fun, familiar, real. The setting enchanting. There is a believable magic in the air, the garden, the soil, the personalities. Wonderful, fun!
This is not a fun or funny book about aging or even about being a woman. It is about a sarcastic, unappreciative, whiner. I expected to laugh. I expected to feel some connection with the author as a woman. I was sadly disappointed and did not laugh at anything because this was nothing more than her story about her boring life.
This is absolutely my favorite audio book! I am not dealing with any issues at this point in my life and am not recovering from a catastrophy, but I enjoyed this book thoroughly as we are all on (or should be) a spiritual journey. This book was so fun, informative, entertaining, exciting, sad... It had it all and in such form that I truly hated to come to the end. So much so, in fact, that I've bought the print version and will make this my beach read. I am impressed with Elizabeth Gilbert so much, that I will read (or listen to) all her work. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.
I enjoyed this book, but it is definitely not my favorite of Lee Smith's wonderful books. If you are not familiar with her work, please do not start out with this book. Some of the narrators were off and all wrong for the characters I felt.
This is the best book I've never read. I loved every minute and was sad to come to the end. The narrator was wonderful and the story (letters) is beautifully written. I am now a forever fan of Lee Smith and will search out audio books narrated by Kate Forbes. I listened to this book while walking in the mornings and evenings and was so captivated that I found myself walking longer, further and more often than ever to hear more. I finished the 13+ hour audio in one week. I give this book my highest recommendation.
