For much of her life, Anne Morrow, the shy daughter of the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, has stood in the shadows of those around her, including her millionaire father and vibrant older sister, who often steals the spotlight. Then Anne, a college senior with hidden literary aspirations, travels to Mexico City to spend Christmas with her family. There she meets Colonel Charles Lindbergh, fresh off his celebrated 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic. Enthralled by Charles’s assurance and fame, Anne is certain the celebrated aviator has scarcely noticed her. But she is wrong.

Loved the history presented in an entertaining and interesting story line. It's always great to listen to a book about interesting and inspiring people from history.

Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

Found this to be a great story that kept my interest. The test for me is finding myself looking forward to when I can listen, instead of just listening when I have time. This book passed the test easily. I also enjoyed the reader. Nothing is more distracting to a story than having it not read well; in this case it was very well done.

In 1918, after four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia to take a job as the lighthouse keeper on remote Janus Rock. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes only four times a year and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Very frustrating to listen to since the end of most sentences fade to a whisper. Hard to adjust volume and difficult to follow because of poor narration.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    Constantly!

Was The Light Between Oceans worth the listening time?

Have not finished. As frustrating as the narration is will finish as I like the story.

    Any additional comments?

A good book runined by the reader. I listen to and enjoy many books with accents. The problem is the fading volume and nearly mumbling at the end of sentences.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Got 40 hours to kill? You’ll find the time when you start listening to Lee’s take on Follett’s epic – and widely celebrated – novel of 12th-century England. The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...and of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame....

I so enjoyed this book I quickly purchased Ken Follett's World With End. While the book is long, the details keep it interesting and make the listening time fly by. The historical details and character development make for a great learning and enjoyable experience.
