This was a great book! It's just a story about a Chinese farmer a hundred years ago, so it took me a while to buy it and read it, but everybody says it's real good so I decided to stretch outside of my comfort zone and try it, and I really liked it! Well worth it. By the time I was into it a couple of chapters, I really wanted to know what was going to happen to Wang Lung and his family. Now I've got the movie on the way from Blockbuster, and I'm looking forward to seeing it.
Great book! After the first couple of hours I couldn't stop listening - How is Amir going to live down his cowardice?, I wondered. I was sure he would redeem himself, and he eventually did, and the ending was very satisfying. Made me feel like there's hope for each one of us.
Read by the author, his slight accent brought me completely into his world of Afghanistan as well as his world of Afghan immigrants in America. The suffering of the Afghan people under first the Russians and then the Taliban was very vivid, and made Amir's return there even braver.
