This brand-new collection rounds up some of our all-time favorite calls about animals and cars -- like Sidney, whose lunch disappeared in the air vents (and then died there!); Richard and his goat problem; and the dog who likes to ride on top of the truck cab. We've also included the "Andy Letter," possibly the greatest letter ever received at Car Talk Plaza, along with the phone call that precipitated it -- a call about electric brakes on a cattle trailer.

If you are a CarTalk fan you will love this one! Smooth transitions (as opposed to the "Best of") and some memorable moments that can be enjoyed over and over. Highly recommended!

Few people today realize that this earth is the primary battle zone of a cosmic war that erupted years ago. But, after listening to this book, you will know why it is being fought, how and when it will end. The Great Controversy begins at the dawning of the Christian era, traces the rise and fall of nations and religious powers down to our day, then plunges ahead to preview the future. And what this book sees coming is not based on guesswork.

Never thought it would happen but I'm tickled to find "The Great Controversy" on Audible! This is an outstanding book and I give it my highest recommendation! A MUST HAVE! Truly life changing! The human condition boiled down to good-vs-evil explained thoroughly.

  • What's So Amazing About Grace?

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 17 mins)

    • Whispersync for Voice-ready
    Overall

    Story
    (48)

The author of 6 Gold Medallion award-winning books challenges Christians to become living answers to a world that desperately wants to know, what's so amazing about grace? Philip Yancey gives the listener a probing and impassioned look at grace: what it looks like - but more importantly, what it doesn't look like. Yancey contends that grace is a concept at the heart of God's plan for salvation, and that it is the responsibility of every Christian to reveal the grace the world is searching for.

    Cary says: "Great Book!"
    "Love it, love it..."
    Overall

Probably Yancey's best and destined to be around a long time. A "must read/listen" selection.

  • Zipporah, Wife of Moses

    Story

In the time of the Pharaoh, a tiny infant is rescued from the banks of the Red Sea. She is named Zipporah, "the little bird". Although she is a Cushite by birth, one of the black people of the lands to the south, she is taken in by Jethro, high priest and sage of the Midianites. Jethro adores his adopted daughter, and she is an honored member of his family. But the blackness of Zipporah's skin sets her apart and will decide her future.

    Overall

Not at all Biblically accurate. So this was a disappointment. I felt the same way I did when reading a book about King David where it suggested he must have been gay and that Jonathan and he were lovers. Quite absurd! Little is known about Zipporah and I had hoped to learn more about Moses' wife through this one but it is a strange account with a lot of "literary license" used by this author.

  • Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Al Franken
    • Narrated By Al Franken
    Overall
    (2082)
    Performance
    (317)
    Story
    (328)

Finding logical inconsistencies, factual errors, and doublespeak wherever he looks, Al Franken takes on and destroys the myth of liberal bias in the media, hoists the Bush White House on its own rhetorical petard, and punctures the mean-spirited sanctimony of such media darlings as Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly. Timely, provocative, unfailingly honest, and always uproarious, Lies is sure to raise hackles and spark hilarity inside the Beltway and from sea to shining sea.

Peter says: "Franken's One Sided View"
    "Funny, but..."
    Overall

I've been a Franken fan for years. With this one (although there are many enjoyable parts) the language and irreverance got to me. Suppose one must be a little thick-skinned (and certainly leaning left) to fully appreciate his humor, but I'm not a big fan of vulgar language so I couldn't rank this one any higher than 3 stars.

Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. himself reads from his most celebrated works: Breakfast of Champions, Cat's Cradle, Slaughterhouse-Five, and three complete stories from Welcome to the Monkey House.

I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It reminded me of some wonderful moments reading his paperbacks in college. It might be a little confusing if you're not familiar with his work but it's probably still worth a try if you are thinking of "tasting" some Vonnegut.

Why is it that so many of our calls start out talking about, say, differentials or power steering, but wind up discussing men, women, devious ploys of deception, and power trips? Simple. To quote our producer, Dougie Berman: "A car is just a big inanimate object through which we reveal ourselves and our true personalities. Tangled up with cars are the issues of money, power, independence, self-image, confidence, generosity, and honesty, just to name a few." We couldn't have said it better, if at all.

It's difficult to find good, clean humor these days...but this is a rare exception! I have listened to all three volumes and this one is my favorite. Too, too funny! Enjoy with a nice cuppa...
