I read this when it came out. For years, I gave this book with War and Remembrance as gifts and never came across anyone who didn't share my love of this story.
The history is fascinating, though it definitely has a point of view and you may disagree with some interpretation of events.
The narrator does a great job. When I first started, I felt he didn't get Pug right, but as I went along, I warmed to his interpretation.
I can't recommend this enough, it is worthy of six stars in every category.
I did finish this book but only because I fell asleep during the last half & only woke for the last chapter. It seems I didn't miss a thing
This was a life changing listen. I haven't seen the movie but it can't possibly have the power of this book.
Parts of this were interesting, but there was too much lingo, too much repetition and a whole lot of stating the obvious.
The central premise of this book, that a responsible woman would have stayed with this guy, is absurd. If you can get past that it passes the time. I finished this one.
This was well worth the time. Good story well told. Only weak part was when he bragged about the "today we will talk like this" scene in WHMS- which threw off the flow of the movie. He should have apologized for that.
But still good. I'm glad I got this one, it was interesting to hear GN's childhood. . I was entertained.
But could be better. A lot of talk, talk, talk when action would tell the story better.
The stories are pointless. He isn't an interesting person. I suppose that's why he never got past the middle
Like all of these books, this one was greater than the sum of its parts.
BOUGHT THIS ON 2:1 SALE. BASED UPON OTHER BOOK, I'M NOT EVEN GOING TO WASTE MY TIME DOWNLOADING THIS BOOK. IN MY DEFENSE- I HAD THE FLU WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR MY ACTIONS.
